TotallyOz Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 For those of you that have boyfriends who are going back to the one day a week high school so they can finish their degrees, this is the weekend they must register. They need to find a school, get their papers from their family home and an ID. I have been told that this is the weekend for most parts of the country that they must go and talk to the teacher. Quote

I was not aware of a one day a week high school program. I would like to see "boy special" receive a high school diploma. I am not sure "boy special" thinks school is important, though. Any details you have would be appreciated. Are there several high schools in Pattaya that participate in this program? Quote

There are many schools that do this. Best way to know is to ask some of the boys who take the classes. It is VERY cheap and the boys that want an education will take advantage of this if they have the opportunity. I make sure I don't offer someone this unless I am willing to pay for it until they finish. I have had ex's who I tell I will continue to pay for all their expenses but when they leave me, they stop the schools. That tells me often they do it for me and not for themselves. I guess I am OK with that though I do wish they wanted it for themselves as much as I want it for them. Quote

I do not want to offer this to someone unless I understand the entire program. Is it usually a four year program? I guess is depends on the student's placement test. Generally speaking, what is the cost of a semester or year? Is it possible to go to one of the high schools and receive more information? Quote
PattayaMale Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 For those Thais that finish the one day high school, what advantage is this for them? Do many businesses require a high school diploma for employment? At least in Pattaya, it seems that being able to speak English and attending a tourism vocational school may lead to a better chance for employment. I think that education is a key to better jobs. But in my opinion, that education needs to lead to something. I am curious if those that have helped the Thai boys finish high school, did it help them get higher wage jobs? Quote
Guest Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 The school is very inexpensive. It is large classes and books that are very cheap. I think I paid 500 bath for teacher and 200 bath for book and 1,000 baht for a project last term. The project was not required but the BF wanted his group to be better than the others so I think he could afford more than most. There are no placement tests. You are placed according to the grade you finished. Most have about a 6th Grade education level. Some have 9th grade. You can go to this school and do it about 2 times as fast as you would if you were really in school. So, for someone with 6th Grade, it would normally take them another 6 years to finish if they were young but now they are in this program, they can finish in 3 years. I have met many of the BF's friends from this school as their group has came swimming several times and attended his Birthday Party last year. They are mostly girls and they seem to all know that this is the only way their life will be better. They realize that now but their family could not afford to pay for them after 6th Year. So, they want more now. Most are not bar boys and girls but some are and some have farangs. They can get a better job when they finish as the majority of Thai's do not have a high school degree. They can do 6 years of school in 3 years of once a week schooling? Wow! That sounds like a good program. Is there a test to pass after each grade level is achieved? I suppose there is a lot of homework and projects that need to be completed. Quote
