Members RA1 Posted August 8, 2015 Members Posted August 8, 2015 Apparently there exists an Earth like planet named Gliese Cc which is a mere 22 light years away. Any one of us could go there so long as we can go the speed of light and don't mind giving up 22 years back on Earth. (If we did not come back, seemingly it would not matter.) This planet is 4.5 times as big as Earth but I am willing to suppose we will NOT weigh 4.5 times as much. That would be a tragedy indeed. One interesting thing is that this planet orbits it's sun every 28 days. So those of us who enjoy the change of seasons would be in for a windfall. A complete "year" of seasonal changes every 28 days. I realize that some among us do that by traveling north to south and vice versa with seasonality. But, they are wealthy or something. Members MsGuy Posted August 8, 2015 Members Posted August 8, 2015 Any planet with a 28 day orbit is going to be hot enough to melt most metals and with barely a trace of whatever atmosphere it started out with. "Look Mathew, the copper pool froze over last night." "Yep, been a mighty cold winter, you betcha." lookin 1 Quote
Members RA1 Posted August 8, 2015 Author Members Posted August 8, 2015 Are you saying that because it is going so fast it must be hot or because a orbit of that length suggests close proximity to the star it orbits? According to the astronomical report, neither is true but what do scientists know? Best regards, RA1 Quote
AdamSmith Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Ze trick is that this planet's star is a red dwarf. "This star is radiating only 1.4% of the Sun's luminosity from its outer atmosphere at a relatively cool effective temperature of 3,700 K." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gliese_667#Gliese_667_C lookin 1 Quote
