Gaybutton Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 Sorry, about all the extra time you are having to spend. I hope you don't view that as a bad thing! Not at all. Every one of your posts are good ones. I find no fault with any of them. The fact that the contest is being financed solely with GT's money, and not one baht of it is coming out of my own pocket, has nothing to do with my personal opinion of people who appeared on this board only to try to win the contest and will disappear as soon as it's over. Guest MonkeySee Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Every one of your posts are good ones. I find no fault with any of them. Thank-you for the kind word. I felt like daggers were being thrown my way for a while. I try and post informative and helpful items. The fact that the contest is being financed solely with GT's money, and not one baht of it is coming out of my own pocket, has nothing to do with my personal opinion of people who appeared on this board only to try to win the contest and will disappear as soon as it's over. I know that you do not want to discuss this and simply ignore me if you like, but do you feel the same way about a person sampling a wine promotion and then not buying a bottle of that wine? A give-a-way at the supermarket of ham samples but the samplier does not buy the ham? Those are small items but let us say a resort selling time shares gives you a free week to visit the resort, do you feel if a person does not buy, that he is taking advantage? Quote
Gaybutton Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 do you feel if a person does not buy, that he is taking advantage? Do you really think that's the same thing? A small cube of ham or a sip of wine compared to a $1500 prize? I don't think your analogy is valid. Quote
Guest MonkeySee Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Do you really think that's the same thing? Same same, but different. The ham, the wine, and the free resort stay are all are examples of promotions. If you take a free week or weekend vacation to a resort that was promoting their time-sharing at the facility, but decided not to buy; would you then have no respect for yourself the morning after? Quote
Gaybutton Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Same same, but different. You have your opinion and I have mine. I don't see it the way you do at all. Obviously I'm not going to convince you and you're not going to convince me. I see it as wrong to keep posting day after day solely for the purpose of trying to win the contest and then rarely or never hearing from those who do that once the contest ends. You see it as perfectly ok. I hope you'll be among those who stick around once the contest ends. You asked about respect. If the people who are posting prolifically during the contest period disappear once the contest is over, the best I can tell you is my respect for those people will disappear right along with them. Guest MonkeySee Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 You have your opinion and I have mine. I see no right and wrong, here. As Gay Thailand said, one of the purposes of the promotion was to have fun. I think you might be taking things a little too seriously. There are a lot of choices out there when it comes to message boards and people come and they go for various reasons. Quote
Gaybutton Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 people come and they go for various reasons. I hope you won't be one who goes. Quote
Gaybutton Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Even though total numbers of posts have nothing to do with winning this contest, I thought some of you might be interested in some of the numbers. So far, 28 posters have their names in the hat at least once. Some, a great many times more than once. The posters who have exceeded 100 posts since the contest began are, as of December 8: MonkeySee: 301 posts Laurence: 124 posts Lvdkeyes: 124 posts Pattayamale: 101 posts There were some posts that were deleted for various reasons, but those posts were still counted toward the daily minimum of 3 in order to get your name in the hat that day. PattayaMale Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 I noticed that GB posted the post about those that have posted over 100 posts at 12:51AM. Talk about dedication!! I know he says he likes doing this and I am sure he does. But even though he doesn't always agree with me nor I with him, I think he deserves some type of award> Quote

I know he says he likes doing this and I am sure he does. But even though he doesn't always agree with me nor I with him, I think he deserves some type of award. Maybe not dedication. It's more like I'm simply not tired yet, so I get the daily count out of the way. I appreciate what you said. We've had our little tiffs. I don't hold any of it against you. I'm glad you don't hold any of it against me. In any case, I'm flattered that you think I deserve an award. If people are benefiting from this message board and the work I put into it, that's award enough for me. Quote
Gaybutton Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 I thought some of you might like an update on this contest. The following posters, as of December 17, have exceeded 100 posts since the contest began: Steve1903 - 110 Pattayamale - 141 Laurence - 148 Lvdkeyes - 181 Fountainhall gets honorable mention with 99 posts. The leader of the pack is MonkeySee - 355 posts so far. Quote

Gaybutton Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 As of January 14, there are 44 posting days left in this contest. Don't forget how it works. In order to be eligible to win, you must have at least 150 posts within the contest period. If you make it as far as 150 posts, then your name goes into "the hat" once for each day you posted at least three times. As of January 14, the following posters have reached eligibility (one or two word posts and frivolous posts are not counted): GaySacGuy - 151 posts Steve1903 - 167 posts Slackersam - 172 posts Laurence - 210 posts Pattayamale - 236 posts fountainhall - 262 posts Lvdkeyes - 333 posts MonkeySee - 564 posts Quote
PattayaMale Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Thanks for this update GB. With 44 days remaining I encourage others to join in and reach the 150 posts. I am wondering if there will be a public drawing with a little party attached. It might be fun. You might have already announced it, but I did not want to look through the other 65 posts to see. Quote
Gaybutton Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 I am wondering if there will be a public drawing with a little party attached. At the moment the plan is to at least do the drawing publicly. Just where and on exactly what date is still being planned. If GayThailand will not yet be back in Thailand, then I'm going to do it. What we have so far discussed is having GT make arrangements with one of the bars. He and I, even if he is not here, will tally up the names in "the hat" to make sure we both concur. We intend to have bar boys place the names in the hat, publicly, and have a bar boy be the one who draws out the winning name, also publicly. Whether the winner is present or not, he will be contacted by GT to arrange the prize. Whether GT intends to host a party on top of a $1500 prize, I don't know. My recommendation is that anyone who wishes to be there when we do the drawing is welcome, but has to open his own wallet if he wishes to drink. However, that's GT's decision. Quote
PattayaMale Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 This is possibly a silly question but I will ask anyway. How will you know if a poster is using more than one board name? A poster doing so would be able to have not just 1 ticket put into the hat a day but if the same person is posting 3 a day under 2 handles that person would have 2 tickets put in each day. I am in this for the fun of it and I have enjoyed the posting, but thought I would ask as I thought I saw a pattern of a poster posting and another poster always following. Quote
Bob Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Geez, I hope this contest ends soon so I don't have to continue wading through the thousands of posts about nail polish, Chinese bunions, and all the other "need-to-know" topics....haha. Quote
Gaybutton Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 This is possibly a silly question but I will ask anyway. How will you know if a poster is using more than one board name? If someone really goes to that extreme to win, I suppose there really isn't much we can do about it other than check for IP address similarities. However, the number of eligible posters so far and the writing styles are good evidence that nothing like that is going on. Don't forget, I read every one of the posts, word for word, every day. I think with my experience on message boards, by now it would have become glaringly obvious to me if someone was trying to pull a stunt like that. Writing styles, the words that are misspelled (I usually go in and correct misspellings on these posts), use of grammar, use of punctuation . . . all of those are dead giveaways when the same person is using multiple handles. So far there is nothing that arouses my suspicions. However, if you, or anyone else reading this post, has suspicions, then I would appreciate you alerting me and the other moderators to it and we'll do what we can to check. In a way I kind of hope someone really is posting with multiple handles to try to win the contest. Wouldn't he feel like a damned fool when someone else's name is drawn out of the "hat"? Quote
KhorTose Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Don't forget, I read every one of the posts, word for word, every day. At the end of day how do replace the gray matter destroyed by this practice? Quote

Guest MonkeySee Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 At the end of day how do replace the gray matter destroyed by this practice? It would be nice if you could replace the gray matter, but unfortunately you are stuck with what you have. As far as I know, neurons won't divide after their initial growth stage. Although meditation, crossword puzzles and other mind games keep the brain active and healthy, I am not aware of anything that can replace those destroyed brain cells. Changing your routinue and learning new things may help the brain. Just think Gaybutton, when wading through the thousands of posts about nail polish, Chinese bunions, and all the other "need-to-know" topics, you might be helping fight dementia. Quote

You know, I had a really great argument to make against that thesis but I have simply forgotten what I wanted to say! Quote
Gaybutton Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Just think Gaybutton, when wading through the thousands of posts about nail polish, Chinese bunions, and all the other "need-to-know" topics, you might be helping fight dementia. Sometimes I think that's precisely what's bringing on dementia. There are plenty of people out there who will tell you I became "demented" a long time ago. I'm told I definitely a few sandwiches short of a picnic. The cheese fell off my cracker many moons ago! But yes, I do read the posts. Pattayamale says he sees a pattern between two posters. I hope he sends me a PM or Email and let's me know who he's talking about. I haven't spotted a pattern. But, as I said, if anyone out there is suspicious that someone is trying to cheat, please let us know and we'll certainly look into it. Quote
Guest MonkeySee Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 With Bush leaving the White House, are we no longer safe from terror attack? At least, we can feel safe on this board. I am so glad members are on the lookout for those nasty people that are possibly cheating and posting under two different names. To think someone might do this in order to win a contest! What is this world coming to? I find it reassuring that spelling is being corrected. You know that is a nice touch since sometime we post after a few cocktails. Let me tell you, I am thankful to the moderators that those catty remarks are not allowed. I hope the untested Obama will do well, but sure would like to know how to report a smoker in the White House. Quote
