High Season Give-A-Way

Recommended Posts

Posted

The economy is struggling in most parts of the world. People have lost retirement investment and their portfolios are down. Many have said they are unable to return to Thailand next year as it is cost prohibitive. We are here are help with our High Season Give-A-Way.

The prize:: A roundtrip ticket from your city to Thailand anytime during 2009. We will book this for you (via Rhonda and Norcross Travel or another travel agency to insure discretion) for up to 1500 USD.

The way to enter: Every day we will tally the number of people that have 3 or more posts. Winner (to be drawn by independent witnesses) must have made 3+ posts, on any given day, and also at least 150 posts over the competition period (November 1 – Feb. 28th).

To qualify, the posts must be reasonable quality. One or two word posts will not count.

While this post is in the main Thailand forum, there are other forums here as well and all qualify.

In the first week in March, we will have a drawing and the person whose name comes out of the hat will be the winner. We will have the drawing in a public place in Pattaya or Bangkok with observers to watch the entries and the results.

Rules*

The prize must be taken before December 31, 2009.

There is no cash equivalent offered.

If the winner is unable to travel to Thailand the prize will be offered to 2nd place and so on.

Judges decision will be final.

Administrators and Moderators are ineligible.

*The competition and its rules are subject to change if circumstances are beyond our control.

Added Nov 3 for Clarification: Everyday we keep a tally. Each day you post 3 or more posts, you get one slip of paper with your name on it. If you post 3 or more posts each day for 10 days, you get 10 slips of paper put into the hat. If you post 3 or more posts for 60 days, you get 60 slips put into the hat. The more days you post 3 or more posts, the more slips of paper you get in the hat as long as you have 150 over the contest period. Thus, the more days you post 3 or more, the more likely you are to have a piece of paper drawn from the hat.

Very nice offer. Can the origin of the trip be Bangkok?

For those that live here of course. That would only be fair. Bangkok to your destination and back.

I only fly Business Class!!! Does this post count toward my 150 posts?

Then just what constitutes a post? Seriously. Do I have to originate a new post to count? Or does a reply to an existing post count?

Any post that is a reply to a thread or starting a new thread. This one would count for me if I were allowed to play. :)

Originating a thread and/or replying to a post, with a quality post counts. Writing a post that says, "I only fly Business Class!!! Does this post count toward my 150 posts?" does not qualify, according to my interpretation of the rules of the contest. The rules specify "To qualify, the posts must be reasonable quality." I don't see that post as reasonable quality going toward an expensive prize such as this contest.

I'm the one keeping score. If you wish to dispute my opinion, the final arbiter is GayThailand. It's his money paying for the prize, so he definitely has the final say-so over me.

To me, a post that is one or two words would not count but if that poster is active and posts good posts regularly, often one sentence is suffice to say what they need saying. The one sentence or two sentence posts will count if that is not the only posts the posters are making. We need need quality posts but often someone can respond to something in one sentence that sums things up efficiently.

Example: I asked if my BF needed a visa to go to Laos. If someone said: Yes, I took my BF there last year and a visa was required as we were flying.

That is really all that would be needed.

I get long winded at times and sometimes I sum things up fast. No one will be penalized by summing up something quickly as there is often no need to elaborate extensively.

GayButton and I are both keeping lists and once a week we will compare notes. I don't think we will ever be too far off.

What a great and generous contest!

I just read this post today and had a question regarding qualifications.

To qualify, must one have 3+ posts everyday including November 1st or just on any given day during the contest period (November 1st through February 28th)? In other words, would I not qualify if I started posting the 3+ post minimum on November 2nd, 3rd or later?

I do understand that one must have at least 150 posts by contest end.

I am sure I am not the only one with this question. If I am, I’ll volunteer to wear the Dunce Cap.

And, I have an additional question.....what time zone are you using to determine the 3 a day.....obviously that could matter greatly.......

November 1 is simply the starting date of this contest. Your posts would count no matter when they begin to appear during the contest period. The parameter is 3+ posts on any day during that period.

Your post above counts, but only if there are at least 2 more posts from you today. If you write 2 more posts today, now you'll have your minimum of 3 in a given day. If you write 100 more posts today, then every one of them will be counted and tallied. If you write no more posts today or 1 more post today, you don't reach the minimum of 3, so none of them would be tallied and counted.

Both GayThailand and I are each keeping score individually, to make sure there are no mistakes. Yesterday, I had one person who wrote 13 posts. All 13 count toward his total for whoever ends up the winner. As of the end of the day on February 28, 2009, we stop counting. At that point everyone who ended up with at least 150 posts will have his name placed in "the hat." Then one name will be pulled from that hat. The person whose name gets pulled is the winner.

The winner is not necessarily whoever wrote the most posts. You could have 150 posts or 10,000 posts, but what you get from that is the opportunity to have your name placed in "the hat." It takes 150 cumulative qualifying posts to have your name placed in the hat. You could write all 150 of them, I suppose, during the day on February 28 and they would be counted, provided they are qualifying posts.

On the other hand, I suppose if you reach 150 posts at some point during this week, technically you could write no more posts at all during the contest period and still end up being the winner.

I'm jealous! One of you guys gets a trip. I'm a moderator here. All I'll get is an opportunity to congratulate the winner. I don't get an opportunity for a free visit to see dear old Mom.

Ummmmm, that's interesting. I had assumed (wrongly I guess) that you were trying to get people to spread over a 50+ day period, during the contest, their posts. But, by your allowing all posts over 3 a day to count that obviously isn't what you were after......I had assumed that after the 3 posts a day the rest of the posts didn't count which makes people return to the board and post more as well as read the posts by others......

I'm not complaining of course because now I can be gone for days at a time and not be concerned but, it does change the way I will handle it, lol.

And, for what it's worth (and my worth to the board is certainly dubious, lol) this contest did get me to start posting here rather than just at SGT and TT.

The rules state, "Every day we will tally the number of people that have 3 or more posts. Winner (to be drawn by independent witnesses) must have made 3+ posts, on any given day, and also at least 150 posts over the competition period"

I see nothing in the rules that say how the posts have to be spread out, although I think most reasonable people would spread them out over time. There might be a few people who try to take advantage of us, but I doubt most people here would do that.

I'm not expecting people to post every single day during the contest. Sometimes people can't post whether they want to or not, due to the goings-on in their lives. Sometimes people's computers go kerflooey and they can't post while their computer is being repaired. Things happen.

Let me try to make it a bit clearer. Sorry if it was ambiguous.

Everyday we keep a tally. Each day you post 3 or more posts, you get one slip of paper with your name on it. If you post 3 or more posts each day for 10 days, you get 10 slips of paper put into the hat. If you post 3 or more posts for 60 days, you get 60 slips put into the hat. The more days you post 3 or more posts, the more slips of paper you get in the hat. Thus, the more days you post 3 or more, the more likely you are to have a piece of paper drawn from the hat.

Does this make sense now? If not, ask away and I'll try to make sure it is more clear and I apologize for any misunderstanding.

Welcome!

The board's time is set to Bangkok time and so is Gaybutton, so that is the time we will use.

I hope it's quite clear to everyone now. Sometimes it's difficult because when we write, it's perfectly clear to us, but sometimes it's not so clear to the other guy.

If this helps, yesterday there were six people who submitted at least three posts. One submitted thirteen posts. Each of them now has one slip with his name on it in the hat.

If those same people submit at least three posts today, they each get another slip with his name on it placed into the hat.

If somebody who has not posted at least three times in one day, since the contest began, does submit at least three posts today, his gets a slip of paper placed into the hat.

Anyone who writes at least 3 posts in one day gets one slip with his name on it placed into the hat. He can write three posts or three-hundred posts today, but he remains eligible for one slip per day.

GT - Do you know yet what day, time, and place the drawing will take place when the time comes?

Okay, perfect. It was what I thought.....one entry per day for each day with 3 or more posts......and in addition you need 50 or more days of this.....excellent!

I say the time of my post and figured it was Thailand time...thanks for confirming this for me!

I am seeking clarification. If I post 2 on gaythailand and 1 on Ting Tong does that make 3 posts? Or does all 3 have to be on only one board?

It is good that 2 people are keeping track. Will the number of people who made 3 posts each day be published online? I would want to know if I was one of the 6 yesterday that posted 3 posts. Let me rephrase. I posted 3 posts yesterday and want to make sure that your records agree with mine........

I am an American and remember what happened in 2000 to the presidential election. I think Gaybutton is from Florida.........same state that screwed up in 2000..........when he lived there :p

I am seeking clarification.

I hope you're joking. All the posts that count toward this contest have to be posted on this board. If the Ting Tong board wants to host their own posting contest, that's up to them. If this contests had anything to do with posts on other boards too, then I wouldn't involve myself in keeping score. It takes enough time to count up the daily posts right here and keep records, let alone to start doing the same thing on other boards. Besides, there are some boards I don't read at all except maybe once in a blue moon.

No, I at least will not be publishing totals or answering "What's my score so far?" Emails or PMs. I don't have time for that. The best I'll do, if you want, is to let you know where you stand once a month by Email, if you send me an Email request, and I won't even do that without GT's permission.

In the 2000 election in Florida, my voting precinct was not among those involved in the screw-up.

Thanks for the clarification GayButton. As you wrote earlier, sometimes when we write a post we think it is clear in our mind but the reader may be confused.

In GayThailand's original post about this, he wrote this: "While this post is in the main Thailand forum, there are other forums here as well and all qualify."

If I would have read it more carefully, I would have understood he was writing about the GayThailand Board and the different sections or forums.

But when I saw just "Thailand forum" I mistakenly thought the other forums. Your response made it clear, that it is just the GayThailand forum.

Ohhhhhhh, ok. Now I understand your confusion. Usually, we refer to message boards and forums. One message board may have several forums. Gaythailand.com is a message board. "Gay Asia" and "The Beer Bar" are each a forum on the message board.

Sometimes I get criticized for writing long-winded explanatory posts (among plenty of other things I get criticized for). This illustrates the reason I do that. I try to anticipate everything readers might confuse and deal with it in my post. Most of the time that seems to work, but there are plenty of times when it doesn't.
