Who Sounds Gay?

Ever had one of those moments when you said to yourself, "Bless his heart, but he sure sounds Gay?"

Or worse yet, " Oh my God, I sound soooo Gay!!" (& just why is that worse? hmm...)

I mean, why is it that so many of us have that stereotypically gay voice? (& don't pretend you don't know what I'm talking about. Jesus, I can actually hear Sucky's speech mannerisms just through his posting style. :queen: Sorry Grandma, but it's true.)

Is it something we somehow pick up from the environment? You telling me Truman Capote somehow learned to talk like, well, Truman Capote, in Columbus freaking Mississippi? :logik:

On the other hand, the nearest parallel I can come up with is the Southern Belle. I'm thinking specifically of three girls I know very well (2 cousins & the sister of a close friend) who were perfectly normal children but who morphed into full blown Southern Belles in the 8th/9th grade, complete with mannerisms and speech patterns. It was scary!

Interestingly enough, one of them regressed to normal sometime during college, one remains a Belle to this day and one kind of settled into a middle ground. So again, not unlike many of us Gays.

Anyhoo, this guy, David Thorp, got fascinated by this very question and made a documentary exploring the subject. Interviewed all kinds of people about the origins of the Gay voice. I can't wait to see it.

Fortunately, I have a radio announcer's baritone which many find sexy. I have to admit, though, when I'm speaking with a boy who has a soft, stereotypical gay voice I get hard. It's one of my odd fetishes.

When I hear a recording of my voice, I tend to replay it several times since I'm so fond of it. I wish I was as fond of my tummy!
