How Will the Economic Crisis Affect Your Travel Plans?

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering if the economic chaos, especially following the failed USA bailout package and subsequent worldwide stock market crash, is going to cause people's travel plans to change. Are any of you postponing, canceling, or otherwise amending your travel to Thailand plans?

Nope! Just purchased ticket for another visit before air fares further increase.

My trips to LOS are my only source of real pleasure so I will continue to make my yearly trip even if I have to cut back somewhere else. The only thing that affects my trips at this point in caring for an elderly mother ( I had to cancel my October trip) but have just booked the feb trip.

No plans to cut back on my twice-a-year trips (at the moment). However, with the cost of flying UK-BKK-UK sky-rocketing I will probably have to revise my ticket plans and travel premium economy rather than biz.

The lowest biz class quote I could get for the dates of my next planned visit was

The lowest biz class quote I could get for the dates of my next planned visit was 630 (1100 dollars) more than the biz fare I paid on my last visit in June!

You might consider flying economy, God forbid!!!!!

There's absolutely no chance of that! I'd rather cut my trips to one a year and still fly biz or premium economy than to be herded like cattle to the plane then packed like sardines in economy for the journey!!

I agree if I had to fly economy , I would just stay home. I am 6ft 4 and all legs and cannot stand to be so confined. The preium ecocnly is just fine for me.

With air fares rising I think it might have an effect.

I don't see as many US tourists in Thailand as I did 2 years ago...

considering the way they act in public, they won't be missed :-)

my trip for this year was pretty much all paid for months and months ago. I will just have to pay for food and "incidentals" on the ground.

Personally I have a very good job and plenty of money in the bank. I figure it makes more sense to enjoy myself now while I am still young and vital. :-) And since no one may be able to go anywhere before long I plan to pack in the fun now. Once the world goes bankrupt traveling most likely won't be as much fun.

I am thinking of Bhutan next year maybe. And spend a little time in BKK before and after since Druk Air flies from there to Bhutan and it is the only option. But we'll see...

The credit crunch bypassed me somewhat owing to not being allowed credit cards any more. The price of airfare would be more of an indicator of my chances of getting to LOS. Little rises I can take but if prices soared I may be shackled to the UK.

How my traqvel plans are affected will depend on where the bottom of this crisis is, and how long it takes to get there. I have a monthly retirement (PERS in CA), but their funds are in the stock market, so if it completely crashes I have no idea what the outcome would be for me.

I am now living in Ubon, so I will probably travel to the US about once a year to visit my sister and take care of business. I just hope that this doesn't go on too long, and that there is decent recovery.

Disparate economic forecasters all seem to agree that this situation is going to go on for at least another 18 months and will not start to improve until Spring 2010 and even then they expect the recovery to be slow and not be fully complete until the end of 2010/beginning of 2011 !

It will make me not visit America - because I hate bread lines and food riots.

This is a world economy now, and you best believe that if the US has major problems, then the world economy will have MAJOR problems...so you may not be able to escape it...unless you go into space???

Yes, but my fellow Americans will whine more than others.

Booked a flight BKK-AMS-BKK for April yesterday.

Problems with economy?

IMHO the USA has major problems with their economy and possible problems in Asia and Europe are nothing more than a reflex of worried investors. Wait about 2 or 3 weeks and the USA is still crawling from the financial pain and the rest of the World goes on if nothing has happened. (I sincerely hope so!)

Dream on!:rolleyes: This is a global financial crisis and the RoW is not immune from it. It will only get better for the rest of us when the USA sorts out the financial mess it created and most economic forecasters say that will not be for another 18 months at least.

The $700 billion bail out is just to tide the US economy over and ease a bit of the pain - it does nothing to resolve the underlying problems they have in their banking and financial sector.

I predict the EU economies will start collapsing next week.
