Guest lvdkeyes Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Wanted to remind everyone that they can watch the first presidential debate at 0800 Thai Time Saturday morning (Friday evening, 2100 EDT). If McMess doesn't show up will Obama talk for the 90 minutes himself? Quote
Gaybutton Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 If McMess doesn't show up . . . Then I bet I know who will: ____ "I was recently on a tour of Latin America, and the only regret I have was that I didn't study Latin harder in school so I could converse with those people." "Republicans understand the importance of bondage between a mother and child." "Welcome to President Bush, Mrs. Bush, and my fellow astronauts." "Mars is essentially in the same orbit... Mars is somewhat the same distance from the Sun, which is very important. We have seen pictures where there are canals, we believe, and water. If there is water, that means there is oxygen If there is oxygen, that means we can breathe." "What a waste it is to lose one's mind. Or not to have a mind is being very wasteful. How true that is." "The Holocaust was an obscene period in our nation's history. I mean in this century's history. But we all lived in this century. I didn't live in this century." "I believe we are on an irreversible trend toward more freedom and democracy--but that could change." "One word sums up probably the responsibility of any vice president, and that one word is 'to be prepared'." "Verbosity leads to unclear, inarticulate things." "We don't want to go back to tomorrow, we want to go forward." "I have made good judgments in the past. I have made good judgments in the future." "The future will be better tomorrow." "We're going to have the best-educated American people in the world." "People that are really very weird can get into sensitive positions and have a tremendous impact on history." "I stand by all the misstatements that I've made." "I am not part of the problem. I am a Republican." "I love California, I practically grew up in Phoenix." "Illegitimacy is something we should talk about in terms of not having it." "We are ready for any unforeseen event that may or may not occur." "For NASA, space is still a high priority." "Quite frankly, teachers are the only profession that teach our children." "We're all capable of mistakes, but I do not care to enlighten you on the mistakes we may or may not have made." "It's time for the human race to enter the solar system." - Vice President Dan Quayle Quote
Guest Geezer Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Dan didn’t say all that stuff. http://www.snopes.com/quotes/quayle.asp He also didn’t say President Roosevelt went on TV at the beginning of the Great Depression to talk to the American people. Quote
Guest laurence Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Dan didn’t say all that stuff. http://www.snopes.com/quotes/quayle.asp He also didn’t say President Roosevelt went on TV at the beginning of the Great Depression to talk to the American people. Your right Geezer! That line came from Senator Joe Biden. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 But his most memorable (for me) was when he told that kid he forgot the "e" at at end of potato. Quote
Guest slackersam Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 To be fair, being able to spell is no indication of being qualified to be Vice President. Hell, no one asks you to spell anything at the funerals of minor South American dignitaries. Quote
Gaybutton Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Dan didn’t say all that stuff. According to that web site, he said most of it. The web site itself says, "Dan Quayle has certainly made more than his share of misstatements, and most of the ones on the following list are actual Quayle quotes." The ones the web site says are falsely attributed to Quayle are: "If we don't succeed, we run the risk of failure." "A low voter turnout is an indication of fewer people going to the polls." "It isn't pollution that's harming the environment. It's the impurities in our air and water that are doing is." According to that web site, the rest of the quotes are things Quayle really did say. So, in fairness, I've edited out and removed the statements in my post the web site says were erroneously attributed to Mr. Quayle. Quote
Guest GaySacGuy Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 The various polls show that it was about a tie...that both did what they had to do. Obama seems to have a slight edge among the undecided voters. Now it is on to October 2 (the morning of Oct 3 here in Thailand) and the vice presidential debate. I really don't know what ot expect, but with the few interviews that Palin has allowed, she doesn't seem ready to face the likes of Joe Biden. There is at least one conservative radio show host that said she should withdraw for the good of the party and the country. If her selection is an example of McCain's "Country First", then the country is in really big trouble!!! Quote
Guest slackersam Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 The thing is that Biden doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut and quit while he's ahead. If Palin simply sticks to simple declarative sentences and waits for Biden to say something arrogant, stupid or outrageous she might come out ahead. Having Biden in a debate is sorta like inviting your drunk uncle to your wedding. Anything can fucking happen. Quote
