Guest Simon208 Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 I hope to take in Kho Samui for a few days as part of a short trip to Thailand in November. As I have never been before I would be grateful for your advise and ideas. I will be travelling alone but would like to experience gay massage, bars, places to stay and visit. Your thoughts and ideas would be appreciated. Simon Quote
Guest buaseng Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 I hope to take in Kho Samui for a few days as part of a short trip to Thailand in November. I have been there twice (the last time in February this year) and found the place grossly over-rated and more importantly very expensive for Thailand. The island is run by the local mafia who have their greedy money-grabbing hands in all sorts of enterprises. There is a small 'gay scene' but the island resort caters far more for tourist family holidays than most others in Thailand and consequently farangs with a Thai boy in tow get quite obvious disapproving looks (and comments) which unless you are very thick-skinned can make one feel uncomfortable. Far better to spend those few days in that general area of Thailand in Phuket (Patong Beach) where you can have a blast with no-one giving a damn. You will save quite a bit of money as well. Quote
Gaybutton Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 I agree with buaseng. I would not recommend Koh Samui as much of a gay destination, if that's what you're seeking. He's right about the cost and right about the response of farang. Koh Samui does have a gay scene, though, although it's not much. You might want to check these two web sites: http://www.gaykohsamui.net http://www.utopia-asia.com/thaisamu.htm I agree that if you want to go to southern Thailand, with the gay scene in mind, you're much better off in Phuket. If it were me, and I just had to see Koh Samui for myself, then I would plan the bulk of my time in Phuket and two days at the most in Koh Samui. Quote
billyhouston Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 If you do decide to go to Samui you might care to look at: http://www.premiumwanadoo.com/atmanasamui/ Mana and Didier are very good hosts. If you want to avoid the sharks at Bangkok Airways, you can fly to Surat Thani and take the ferry from Don Sak. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 Mana's Guesthouse looks very appealing and for a nice quiet getaway. I will certainly consider it with my bf. Quote
