AdamSmith Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Bit fey, but a good effort. Poetry Brothel puts the bawd in bard A party where you pay to have verse read to you in a bordello-style setting is packing in the punters. Are poetry and sex work really comparable? http://www.theguardian.com/books/2014/oct/28/poetry-brothel-putting-bawd-in-bard Quote
Members MsGuy Posted October 29, 2014 Members Posted October 29, 2014 I wanted King Lear but with a happy ending. What kind of damned brothel doesn't offer happy endings? AdamSmith 1 Quote
AdamSmith Posted October 29, 2014 Author Posted October 29, 2014 The lit'ry kind, evidently. Happy endings just don't seem to make good art most of the time. The great Paradise Lost has, when you look at it, Satan as its (anti-, but not really) hero, whereas Paradise Redeemed is only slightly more readable than the Book of Mormon ("chloroform in print" -- Mark Twain). And so forth, and so on. Quote
AdamSmith Posted October 29, 2014 Author Posted October 29, 2014 Or try Paradise Regained. Perils of posting when sober. Quote

AdamSmith Posted October 29, 2014 Author Posted October 29, 2014 Half-rates for shooting blank verse? Heroic couplets for muscle worshipers? lookin 1 Quote
Members RA1 Posted October 29, 2014 Members Posted October 29, 2014 Paradise Redeemed, a Harlequin novel? Couldn't resist researching this. Just the kind of semi-froth one might expect; Eve pursued by Adam, a bar named Original Sin, a bakery named Forbidden Fruit, etc. Possibly not up to anyone's standards. AdamSmith Posted October 29, 2014 Author Posted October 29, 2014 Of course the backpage.com crowd spoils the party by offering free verse. lookin 1 Quote
Members RA1 Posted October 29, 2014 Members Posted October 29, 2014 I am only slightly averse to blank verse, heroic couplets and free verse. Best regards, RA1 Quote
AdamSmith Posted October 29, 2014 Author Posted October 29, 2014 Wonder if the upsell would be to charge not by the inch but rather the foot? Quote
