TotallyOz Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 After the court mandated safe sex requirements, the porn companies seem to be moving out of town. It will be curious to see how many end up in Las Vegas or Palm Springs or other places. http://instinctmagazine.com/post/porn-shoot-permits-drop-90-la-county-after-condom-use-mandate Quote
Guest StevenDraker Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 It will be curious to see how many end up in Las Vegas or Palm Springs or other places. Why would porn companies move to Palm Springs? Doesn't the ban extends to the State of California? Quote
TotallyOz Posted August 8, 2014 Author Posted August 8, 2014 Well, the measure discussed in that article is based on an LA County ordinance. That is different than the California OSHA rules which had sued various companies including Hot Desert Knights in Palm Springs and Treasure Island Media in San Francisco. I do not know what the result of those suits are as I do not make porn but at the last Adult Webmaster Expo in Las Vegas, I met several companies that filed in LA that were moving. Quote
Members axiom2001 Posted August 8, 2014 Members Posted August 8, 2014 It's an LA County ordinance only. ...wish the ordinance applied to the entire State of California! Quote
Guest jimboivyo Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 ...wish the ordinance applied to the entire State of California! here here! Pass regulations and let's cut down on the spread of disease. It's still out there and damned if these kids don't know it's nowhere near a manageable disease Quote
Guest badluckcharley Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Guys, you can’t be serious. Do you actually think the limited sex that takes place in a porn shoot is the cause of the HIV and STD problem? You don’t think it is the rampant Meth and other drug use followed by hours of promiscuous sex. OMG, you sound like a typical politician who thinks the regulation everything will solve the problems. Education may help but I know too many incredibly bright people who do tongs of drugs and have unprotected sex, so the education thing is just a ruse as well. May it would be better to have HIV check point on the streets of WEHO and kill everyone who is Positive because they are the problem. I am sorry but I don’t get it. Possibly I don’t understand why this will help solve the problem of people not involved with the porn industry having sex. I can’t believe that they only have sex while making a movie. I know some guys who are POZ and still would rather smoke their drugs and fuck than take their medications regularly. I have to think that their blood test keep coming back as non detectable or they would take their meds more regularly but I don’t know for sure. I just don’t thing making the porn industry a scapegoat is real. Quote
Members JKane Posted August 11, 2014 Members Posted August 11, 2014 Guys, you can’t be serious. Do you actually think the limited sex that takes place in a porn shoot is the cause of the HIV and STD problem? [...] I don't think any thinking person thinks that porn shoots were a even a minor contribution to the spreading of HIV. But it's a nuanced issue going far above that minuscule number of documented transmissions (for everybody but the asshat politicians and press covering the issue anyway...). First off, the exposure to HIV as a part of work, with choosing to use condoms and protection of one's health being a career limiting decision is rather problematic and is certainly something it makes sense for OSHA and the like to at least be interested in. As you mention a very bad culture surrounds many porn stars (and escorts for that matter) and is far more likely to lead to infection and other negatives in their lives. But again, if you're the young impressionable gay just off the bus from Iowa, needs money, are hired for a shoot to bottom for one of those irresponsible guys, and it's made clear to you that you probably won't get future work if you insist on condoms... Second, you will find there is a large population of gays who are extremely, very vocally averse to portrayal of bareback casual sex in a good light, especially because porn shapes many young peoples' first ideas about sex. Many of those vocal opponents lost a huge number of their friends / loved ones to AIDS in the past and keeping this in mind helps one to understand their viewpoint. I personally don't give a shit one way or the other about condoms in porn (hell, even in sex I don't notice a difference worth being worked up about!) but those two issues above align me towards the goals of the ban. The proposition, like almost all propositions is pure bullshit. With so many years of a California legislature unable to move this short circuit of the democratic process was implemented and in practice it uses money and very poor arguments (appealing to the basest instincts and fears) to enact horrible laws which are then very hard to change or amend. That this ban is poorly executed and easily evaded by shifting location makes it entirely pointless, I'd agree. I'd support a more federal effort, except for two things: it would pass based on a appeal to puritanical bullshit instead of well reasoned argument, and it would simply move porn production to other countries where people would be even more vulnerable to exploitation. Guest EXPAT Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 The California Senate has decided not to move forward on AB 1576, which would have mandated condom use in porn. A similar law was pushed through in Los Angeles County by the controversial AIDS Healthcare Foundation, and it resulted in a 96% drop in permits to film porn, driving production underground or out of the county. The law was opposed by most porn performers, citing privacy concerns and the possibility of forcing HIV+ performers out of work. Quote
