TotallyOz Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 One of my boy specials went to see his friend in the hospital yesterday but she was released. He was pregnant and had a baby that was 2 months premature. The baby needed to stay in the hospital for at least 3 weeks to get strength. However, the family did not have the money so the mother and baby were sent home after a few days. The father is a boy that works in the Plaza. It is sad that a hospital would release a new baby that needs treatment and a dinner conversation focused on why they were sent home and they were all adamant that if no money, you cannot stay at hospital no matter what. Sad that this is the law here as it would seem in the best interest of the country for those that really need urgent medical care receive it. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 It is sad that a hospital would release a new baby that needs treatment Jut out of curiosity, does this case not fall under Thaksin's 30 Baht healthcare scheme? I have heard of operations for cancer and other serious illnesses coming under this scheme. Quote
Guest jtrack33 Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 I believe the Bht30 scheme works only in your home region...or the area from where your ID originates. It also doesn't seem to cover the hospital accommodation. The uncle of a friend of mine in Ubon had terminal cancer and while the procedures and medicines were covered well by the hospitals in the province, some/all of the daily hospital charge for inpatients had to be paid before discharge. I guess most Pattaya workers could change their IDs/residence, but then would they bother for a short stay when they have their families back in the province? Quote

As far as I know, the THB 30 scheme was skipped since Mr. Thaksin was set aside: The THB 30 didn't cover the cost anyway. Now, medical care is free, but as soon as the care is only NURSING, they'll send you home: "At home people heal better anyway!" Quote

Since I know NO money No Honey, I assume the doctors took note and decided to adopt the same policy. I have been told the baby is doing fine. I hope that continues! Quote
