Guest Paragon Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 This isn't really about politics, but it does cover a religious effort, so I didn't think it belonged in the Pub. Many Catholics are probably unaware that the fully preserved body of Pope John XXIII is on display for tourists to visit in the Vatican. How this came about is rather fascinating, if not ghoulish. And the popular Pope is hardly alone- preservations of saints bodies and body parts is a longstanding tradition. A list of the preserved is included in this article: http://nypost.com/2014/03/22/making-of-a-saint-the-vaticans-quest-to-preserve-its-leaders/ Quote
Members RA1 Posted March 23, 2014 Members Posted March 23, 2014 I find this intellectually interesting but, as you say, ghoulish. Best regards, RA1 Quote
Members ihpguy Posted March 26, 2014 Members Posted March 26, 2014 Thanks. Santa Teresa d'Avila was the parish church where I lived for a number of years. Interesting to read how the faithful mucked up her remains in the name of faith. Good read. Quote
