Guest tomcal Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 This article was published in 2010, but still very relevant and interesting. I went to Miami/Sobe a lot from about 1996 to 2002 and then started going more often to Ft. Lauderdale, and this past year went 4 times to Ft. Laud. and zero times to Miami. http://www.miaminewtimes.com/2010-01-14/news/gays-are-leaving-south-beach-for-fort-lauderdale/ Quote
Guest Paragon Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 I've always seen Ft. Lauderdale as the more gay-friendly place. I went there in 1976 to mope over a break-up...my first. There was a popular bar with a blond water who was mind-bogglingly beautiful. The DJ was a stud and I worked very hard to pick him up. He was friendly, coming out of the booth to chat with me. At closing time, another guy came up to ask me to go home with him, and I did, even though he had facial hair. So we did it- on the floor!- and guess who walked in? His roommate- the DJ! Turns out he had been checking me out for his buddy. The self-same buddy then told me to take a hike as he was going out again to look for more sex. I was dumbfounded as he seemed to have had such a good time with me. And then naive and stupid me was driving one day and saw the gorgeous blond waiter hitchhiking- shirtless. I didn't want to crash the car, so I pulled over and picked him up. I took him to his house. He did not invite me in, sadly. Later, I realized that the shirtless hitchhiking was really hustling. He didn't want to go home, he wanted to make money. I didn't have any anyway, so my naivete didn't cost me. Quote
Guest EXPAT Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 I have never liked Miami because of the tourists and straight oriented club scene. Quote
Guest tomcal Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Expat, I only liked Miami when the Broadwalk was in North Miami beach, it was the first bar like that I had ever been to! the year was 1996 and I thought I had just found heaven! I will never forget walking in with my friend who took me there and we sat down at the bar, it was like the present boardwalk is now, a oval bar you can walk around. Within 2 minutes of sitting down a Cuban dancer came up and put his hard dick in my hand!....and that started me on the path I have been ever since! lol Quote
Guest EXPAT Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 See that happened to me in Fort Lauderdale first so I never looked back. haha Quote
Members TampaYankee Posted February 17, 2014 Members Posted February 17, 2014 SoBe is good for sight seeing to view the zoo or if you wish to mingle with the hoi polloi -- like a visit to an adult Wally World -- but FTL is the place to hang for the gay set. Thankfully much more affordable too. Quote
Members boiworship Posted February 17, 2014 Members Posted February 17, 2014 Sounds like a trip to FTL is on the horizon. I love sex in high humidity. AdamSmith and flipao 2 Quote
Guest EXPAT Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 This was the first male stripper (later became an escort) that put his dick in the palm of my hand in Fort Lauderdale the first time I ever went to a place with male nude dancers. This was in the early 90's. I have no idea where he is today. He'd be in his early 40's by now I'm sure. Quote
Guest Paragon Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 His dick is probably rotted and old by now, worn from excess use. Or, it could be extra special now because of all of the practice and experience it has. What do you think? Quote
Members msclelovr Posted February 19, 2014 Members Posted February 19, 2014 Fun thread. It brought back memories of SoBe for me.. Where would be a good (ie clean, well-kept rooms with a big bed, bathroom and decent breakfast) hotel to stay in FTL? Quote
Guest EXPAT Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 I like their Hampton Inns in FTL. Quote
Guest tomcal Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Musclovr, I use SPG points usually when I go which are the Sheratons/Westons/W's, love their beds, and can always use their points as no black out dates. I like the Sheraton on Cypress Creek exit on the 95 fwy it's convienent to everything and less then 10 minutes to the Boardwalk! Quote
