The Presidents he knew were the unlucky ones. How could the magazine writers not see this. Misplaced sense of sympathy. Quote

He was with Garfield when he was shot, but wasn't shot himself, and he was not present when his father and McKinley were shot. He was a student at Harvard during most of the Civil War, and never saw combat. He had a distinguished career in law and business, served in the Cabinet under two Presidents, and made a good deal more money than most of his contemporaries. He was also lucky enough to survive to adulthood, although his younger brothers did not. He died at home in his sleep when he was 82. Quote
