Members MsGuy Posted November 14, 2013 Members Posted November 14, 2013 Anyone here have any information on whether Rabbi Nuchem Rosenberg is a reliable informant? http://www.vice.com/read/the-child-rape-assembly-line-0000141-v20n11 I've read before that the Satmar Hassidic sect he refers to is insular and whacky even for an Ultra Orthodox Jewish sect. The charges of wide spread child rape being covered up (&/or participated in) by the Rabbinate seems extreme but then so did the early charges against the Catholics and their bishops. Quote
Members Lucky Posted November 14, 2013 Members Posted November 14, 2013 Child rape in the Orthodox Jewish Communities in the New York area have sure been in the news, with suggestions that some have the D.A.'s office in Brooklyn in their pocket. When politics becomes a first issue in deciding whether to file a case, we are in big trouble. Quote
Members RA1 Posted November 14, 2013 Members Posted November 14, 2013 Isn't politics always a possible issue when deciding who to prosecute? I had breakfast this morning with some old school chums. We were discussing the fact that Memphis has 12,000 unprocessed rape kits, some from 20+ years ago. This should be a big scandal but so far it is only a minor one. One of my friends works for a company that does DNA matching. His lab could handle 30 kits per day without any further equipment purchasing. 1500 kits per week would make a pretty good dent in the back log in a year. But, it will never happen. Why? The coroner's office will not allow anyone other than themselves to process the kits and they do not have the equipment. personnel or budget to accomplish this. Therefore, via a political process/decision we have a 20+ year backlog of kits. Shameful. Best regards, RA1 Quote
Members MsGuy Posted November 14, 2013 Author Members Posted November 14, 2013 FYI: Hasidic sects are cult organizations originally formed around a charismatic Rebbe, usually a couple of hundred years ago, ownership of which passed on to members of his family through the generations. It's as though the great great grandson of Joseph Smith owned the Mormon Church. The reigning Grand Rebbe is regarded as especially holy and touched by God, although that doesn't seem to prevent the kids from gut fighting over their inheritance (we're talking of organizations that command revenues in the hundreds of millions).
