AdamSmith Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Great collection of anecdotes by former -- and current! -- residents of the Chelsea Hotel: http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/2013/10/chelsea-hotel-oral-history TotallyOz 1 Quote
Members Lucky Posted October 30, 2013 Members Posted October 30, 2013 Without having read that, the impression I got of the Chelsea Hotel when I lived down the block was that of people spoiled by their talents and unwilling to do their part even toward their homes. Unreliable deadbeats, in other words. I hope my impressions were wrong. Quote
Members RA1 Posted October 30, 2013 Members Posted October 30, 2013 And, here I thought the post was going to be about the young (formerly) MS. Clinton and her escapades in various hotels. Best regards, RA1 Quote
TotallyOz Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 I had a friend live there and loved it. I visited many times and always enjoyed it. I had fond memories of the place. AdamSmith 1 Quote

AdamSmith Posted October 31, 2013 Author Posted October 31, 2013 And nobody closed this joint down? LOL You may as well be asking that about the whole of NYC, one time or another. Quote
Guest NCBored Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Thanks for the post! I stayed at the Chelsea for a few days in latter 80's or possibly early 90's, on my first visit to NYC as an adult. At the time, I knew nothing of it's history, and all I really remember is that our room was pretty dingy & worn. (My BF at the time booked it for us.) Quote
AdamSmith Posted October 31, 2013 Author Posted October 31, 2013 Regret I never stayed there -- almost, but not quite. In April 2010, when I was going to NYC on an apartment-hunting visit (with Andre meeting me there ), Orbitz was advertising a room at the Chelsea. I snatched it up but, on the day of check-in, got a last-minute email to the effect of, 'Sorry, the room you booked is no longer available. Please call us for alternate arrangements.' Orbitz did rebook me in a nice suite in the Trump hotel at Columbus Circle, for the same price, but we were bummed about not getting to stay in the old grand dame, no matter far past her glory days.
