TotallyOz Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Tonight, several of the bars were closed as there were reports of a possible police raid. Some bars did not have the staff to remain open. The ones that did, the results were really low numbers of dancers. I only stay till around 11 and the raid on the bars did not happen while I was there but they did come and pick up a truckload of street kids. The streets were quiet and I was asked for beer by at least 30 guys tonight. For those looking for over 18 and no off fee, tonight was the night as there were many lurking outside the bars looking for an off with no off fee. A friend of mine who is not gay said the same thing was happening on Walking Street many times and that there were many bars were the girls were taken and the bars fined. Not sure why those don't make the papers. Quote
Guest jomtien Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 I had a GREAT night in Sunee waiting for the raid that never happened. I guess it's all down to what you're looking for. I had lots of fun, lots of laughs and a great time overall. Quote

There were only a few people out and I didn't see you. You must be hiding from me again. Quote
Guest Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 And again tonight, the police were out in force going into all the bars and even clearing out several of the beer bars and even several boys who were walking with their falang. These were not all the underage boys but were boys of all ages and they were apparently doing a pee test on them. Not sure what the result was but there were a good 20 plus officers just from the one group I saw. Quote
Gaybutton Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 During a very recent conversation with an experienced Sunee Plaza mama-san, I asked the question: Why Sunee Plaza all the time? We do hear about raids elsewhere, but it seems like there are at least a dozen raids in Sunee Plaza for every raid we hear about elsewhere. The mama-san said it's very simple. The police know the same thing everyone else knows about several of the Sunee Plaza bars and under-age boys. She said the reason for more and more raids is because there have been less and less customers. The bars have to pay certain members of the local constabulary in order to avoid these raids. If they don't pay, or can't pay, then they raid. Since there are not as many customers as there have been in previous years, the number and frequency of raids is on the rise. She said they don't confine themselves to raiding only the venue that didn't cough up. If they raid one, they usually raid them all, whether money has been paid or not. I pointed out that if those particular bars would obey the law, then the raids wouldn't produce results and they would likely end or be far less frequent. She said it will never happen. Just look around. Which bars are getting the majority of customers? You guessed it . . . the bars with under-age boys and the bars that put on naked shows. She said those bars are making money, even with the raids and pay-offs. In other words, a wee bit of corruption seems to be behind it all. Also, I asked about the CCTV cameras and talked about the fears some people have expressed about them. She simply laughed and said that, at least, is something nobody has to worry about. She has yet to ever be asked for any tapes. She said they are ignored. Quote
Gaybutton Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Typical Gaybutton relying as usual on highly unreliable anecdotal sources. Yes, of course. That's what I always do and I almost always get it wrong, "as usual". What did you expect? As a matter of fact, I can't even remember a post on which I got anything right. I think people are much better off relying on what you have to say than on any information I get from an experienced mama-san who is right there every night, and has been there every night for years. I don't see how what I wrote has anything to do with what you wrote, but have it as you wish. You write what you want and I'll continue to do my writing based on what I witness for myself or based on the information sources I know quite well tell me, despite the idea that you think they are unreliable. You don't have a clue who my sources are, but you've decided they are unreliable. Good thinking. We'll just let the readers here decide for themselves who is correct. Quote
Guest joseph44 Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 I used to know one bar owner of a very famous Sunnee Bar and a mama-sang from another Sunnee Bar. They were very experienced and 'well informed'. Of course I went to these guys if I had a typical question about the scene. Believe me, the more experienced these people are, the better they know what to tell you: Exactly that what you want to hear. The raids on Sunnee and Walking Street are most of the times not performed by the Pattayan BIB but the Bangkokian BIB. The PTT BIB take care of the bar's sponsor-money and in exchange they warn the bar-owners/managers IF they know an upcoming BKK BIB raid in Pattaya. Somtimes the PTT BIB perform a raid, but that's only if the specific bar-owners has forgotten to pay the contribution to the Pattayan Children Police Fund. The big difference between last year's raids and this years is, that the new police chief of the PTT BIB is the former BKK BIB policechief and he used to perform a lot of raids in PTT in the past. He has his connections and knowing now about how, what, where and when his mates are dealing with the raids, he can act more with surprises. In one way or the other, they invented the word "tactics" in the PTT police force. If a farang isn't doing anything wrong and he can show his ID in any way, he doesn't have to fear. Quote
