Monty’s…Not the BEST show in Pattaya.

I have read a lot recently about Monty’s NEW floor show. So after a most enjoyable and inexpensive meal at Mignon (where can you get a margarita for 100 THB?) we waddled around to Monty’s just in time for the “Best Show in Pattaya”.

Of course it is not as professional as the big productions at Tiffany’s and Alcazar, or even the more intimate shows at BBB, the old shows at Throb and especially the Icon, that I miss so much. But for what you get, I thought it was well produced, didn’t run too long and overall was entertaining.

After the show I even braved one of Monty’s “famous” burgers; enjoyed it, but struggled to survived the next morning with only one indigestion tablet and a couple of Tylenol… Needless to say it had nothing to do with how much I had to drink before and after the burger!

Monty’s is not somewhere I would go every night, but for me I found it a very interesting place to relax with friends and have a lot of good fun.

What do you consider the best show in Pattaya?

What do you consider the best show in Pattaya?

A good question, but to be fair it is probably best to ask those who get to see them all. I am interested to see El Duo at Le Café Royal, but these days, unless it is a special show or promotion, I really don’t go to any bar because of the show. However, I did enjoy our time at Monty’s.

Thanks for the report on this. I have not been to Monty's in a while and I will give it a try. I always enjoyed his wit and humor when he had the pool and bar in Sunee. I think it is time for a visit to his place in Jomptien.

KhunATM, you hit a note awfully close to home with your comments about the shows we used to see at Icon. I still miss them immensely. I especially enjoyed them shortly after they started having shows, before they felt they needed "a woman" or many women to make up the full complement of the show. As part of some research I am trying to do to help "pin down" the history of the gay businesses in Pattaya, I wonder if you would share some of your views of the shows, any that were "extra special" and your view, if any, that you feel those shows at Icon had on the gay scene in Pattaya and on other gay shows. I'm "hoping" to do a book on this issue and other issues of gay history in Pattaya and would appreciate any input you (and others) might be inclined to give me. (I still love seeing and hearing Khun Toi singing and performing in Cafe Royale.) I would really appreciate thoughts of others on this and similar issues of what is now already "gay history" of Pattaya. -- Gay Pattayan (Allen)

Thanks, but no thanks GP. However, please feel free to contact me and I will give you the names of people whom I feel are experienced and qualified to help you. Although I suspect you know them already! And I look forward to reading your book very much.

Thanks so much for your personal note, KhunATM!!!! I appreciate your thoughts and ideas very much. I have followed through so far with a fairly lengthy message to Jim Lumsden, without whose help any real research effort would be almost assured of failure. I hope Jim will respond, and if he does, I would hope that we can get together and discuss ways in which to proceed.

I have a lot of ideas on my own, and have had some pretty helpful comments from friends so far, and your suggestions are truly very welcome.

I haven't had any contact wth David Shrubsall in years, but it would be fabulous to renew old acquaintances. Jim Lumsden is incredible beyond belief, and if he will work with me, I would think it would be a virtual guarantee of a most worthwhile effort.

I have never had the chance to get to know Dennis Dewsnap other than meeting him in a hotel room many years ago, when David in Pattaya introduced me, but he too could certainly be a tremendous contributor to knowledge of gay issues in Pattaya and how Pattaya and the gay scene here developed from the earliest days. I would certainly hope I may have a chance to meet with Dennis Dewsnap and get some of his thoughts on Pattaya's early days -- and on some of the marvelous things Dennis has done for the gay community on his own.

If at some point you would also be willing to meet with me, KhunATM, it would be a great pleasure for me, and I am sure you could give me a lot of tips on things to inquire about, what to stay away from, and some views on how the gay scene has developed over perhaps twenty years or more now.

I would, of course, respect confidentiality of any information provided to me in confidence, with use only with the permission of the person who originally provided the information.

I truly respect confidences, to the fullest extent the law of Thailand allows.

If anyone has information he or she would like me to be aware of and check out, please feel free to contact me at <allenbri@ine.co.th> or by PM here. Thanks for taking the time to provide valuable information to me!!!

According to the owner of Ting Tong, the new show that Monty has assembled is very good and enjoyable. Perhaps it is worth a second visit for those that did not like the old one. Monty is a good man and I think good to support local gay owned businesses.
