Gaybutton Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 I was just informed that the police raided the Villa Rouge bar (formerly known as Kaos) last night. The bar had only recently reopened after being closed by the police during the last raid. I was not in Sunee last night, so I have no details yet. All I know, so far, is that a raid took place. I don't know if other bars were also raided and I don't know if Villa Rouge was shut down yet again. If anyone else has the details and can post them before I am able to get the details, please do. Guest Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 What I heard was that 2 Thais entered into Villa Rogue. They sat and drank. One went to the bathroom to call the police and they all came in. One had a video camera to record what was happening. Many of the lads tried to climb out the 2nd story window but they followed them. Approximately 15 were taken to the police station. They were piled into the back of a baht bus and taken away. It was ONLY at that one bar from my understanding. Quote
Guest yedo Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Why is this happening ? Whats wrong with the place ? I'm on my way to Sunee Plaza tonight to have fun, but now Im not sure if this is a good idea. Quote

Some of these bars hire many under-age boys. Some have boys who they know are on drugs, likely buying and selling too. Some bars put on illegal sex shows. Fortunately it is only a very few bars that do this. You don't have a problem even if you are in one of these bars if a raid occurs. The police are not after you unless you're a pedophile. They're after the bars that continue to flout the law. If the bars won't put an end to it, these raids will continue to occur. But you do not have to worry about being arrested. Quote

Gaybutton Posted June 28, 2008 Author Posted June 28, 2008 Here is the text of the PATTAYA ONE story. See ReneThai's link above for photos. The article says two boys were arrested, but looking at the photos, it sure looks like more than just two boys to me. Anyway, here's the article: _____ Sunee Plaza Underage Bar Workers Detained Following Police Raid Soi Sunee Plaza in South Pattaya is an area notorious for underage male bar workers who will sell themselves to foreign patrons, many of which are fully aware that they are employing the services of minors. Police and District officials are constantly raiding bars in the area and on Friday Night a further raid took place. This time, Police Lieutenant Colonel Chockchai, the Deputy Chief of the Crimes against Child and Women Division based at Chonburi Police Headquarters conducted a raid of the Villa Rouge Bar. Two boys aged 14 and 15 were found to be working inside and they, along with the nominated manager for the night, Khun Samat aged 19 were taken to Pattaya Police Station. A full report of the incident will be sent to the Banglamung District Licensing Unit who may decide to impose a temporary or permanent closure order on the bar. Quote
Guest Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 The bar was open last night but little customers were there. The owner is trying to make things look like there is no problem and there many be none. I found the last thing GayButton said interesting, is that the other police would determine if there were any sanctions. Quote
Guest yedo Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 Thanks for the update. I went there late last night but in nearly all the bars it was empty. I know its the low season but when you're the only customer in a bar its no fun. Quote
Guest buckeroo2 Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 I walked by the Villa Rouge last night and it was closed. - I did not look to see if there was any sign posted, but it was definitely not open at 9 PM Sunday night. Guest HeyGay Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 If they paid the right amount to the BIB for security, or any at all, they would not be picked on I was told. Quote
Gaybutton Posted May 22, 2009 Author Posted May 22, 2009 If they paid the right amount to the BIB for security, or any at all, they would not be picked on I was told. I'm not sure why you dredged up a thread nearly a year old already to make this point and I'm not sure who your source(s) of information are when you say "I was told," but yes, it is common knowledge that certain bars pay for such "security." I have had more than one bar owner freely tell me that they pay and how much they pay. That just seems to be a part of how things work here. Not all bars pay, but when police raids occur none of them seem immune to me, whether they pay or not. There have been no major raids for months now, but when the raids do happen the usual target is Sunee Plaza. Pattayaland is pretty much left alone. I know of only one major raid that took place in Pattayaland. What was that, about a year or two ago when farang caught up in that raid were ordered to produce their passports? If I remember correctly, if a farang had his actual passport or had a good copy on his person, he was sent on his merry way without further incident. I also seem to remember that a very few farang were actually taken to the police station, but all were later released. I don't remember whether they had to pay fines, but I suspect they did. Anyway, that's the only Pattayaland raid that I recall at all. On the Ting & Tong's Gay Thailand board, Oogleman posted that one bar in Sunee Plaza was raided Wednesday, this week. I haven't heard about it personally, but you can read what Oogleman has to say about it at: http://www.gaytingtong.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4583 Quote
Gaybutton Posted May 22, 2009 Author Posted May 22, 2009 I haven't heard about it personally Now I have. The way I'm hearing it, the police were rounding up the street kids and checking them for drugs. I do not know whether the police entered any of the bars. Quote

I do not know whether the police entered any of the bars. The bribes the Pattaya BIB are getting is common news, but because of this bribing, things get out of hand once and awhile. Periodically, the Bangkok BIB jump in to restore 'order', and only the well informed and/or well paying entrepeneurs will escape their visit. Quote
