Personally, I always thought it was because of taxation, especially taxation without representation.

Actually, several colonies were founded by peoples in search of religious freedom: Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Pennsylvania to name three.

The revolution was spawned over taxation without representation. Fortunately, we have lots or representation today even though some are trying to disenfranchise the representation of others. Hopefully, the won't prevail.

Religious Freedom was a big part of the reason colonists wanted to separate from the one church of England. But it seems as though many of these right wingers thing that Christianity is the only "correct" religion. I think they all need to understand how America was created based on a variety of religions and a variety of nationalities. It's shameful what we are seeing in some of these states now. Just shameful.
