Guest EXPAT Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 I think some misguided right wingers in Virginia have forgotten why we had the Revolutionary War. http://thenewcivilrightsmovement.com/gop-lt-gov-candidate-if-youre-not-christian-youre-engaged-in-some-sort-of-false-religion/politics/2013/09/23/75572#.UkH4KhbPWZM Quote
Members RA1 Posted September 25, 2013 Members Posted September 25, 2013 Personally, I always thought it was because of taxation, especially taxation without representation. Best regards, RA1 Quote
Members TampaYankee Posted September 26, 2013 Members Posted September 26, 2013 Actually, several colonies were founded by peoples in search of religious freedom: Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Pennsylvania to name three. The revolution was spawned over taxation without representation. Fortunately, we have lots or representation today even though some are trying to disenfranchise the representation of others. Hopefully, the won't prevail. Quote
Guest EXPAT Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Religious Freedom was a big part of the reason colonists wanted to separate from the one church of England. But it seems as though many of these right wingers thing that Christianity is the only "correct" religion. I think they all need to understand how America was created based on a variety of religions and a variety of nationalities. It's shameful what we are seeing in some of these states now. Just shameful. Quote
