Guest zipperzone Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 A friend of mine who is in his early 70s has started an affair with his nephew who is in his mid 50s. One side of me says YUCK. Is it incest or not? The other side of me says why not? They are both adults and who can get hurt? Any thoughts on the matter? I am completely confused. Quote
AdamSmith Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 They both seem marginally above the age of informed consent. And the odds of deformed offspring look manageable, long as they use protection. lookin 1 Quote
Guest EXPAT Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 I think they both need serious help. It is not appropriate at all in my opinion. Quote
Guest hitoallusa Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Marrying cousin was common in the past and I'm not sure whether having an affair with a nephew is a bad thing... If they like each other then it's none of my business. If it works for them then I would let it be.. Quote
AdamSmith Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 I think they both need serious help. It is not appropriate at all in my opinion. Why do you think? I don't want at all to disagree without understanding -- can you articulate some of what, for you, is wrong about it? Quote
AdamSmith Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 On reflection, I ought to add that I myself, from family deep in country down in NC, am the product of, quite literally -- no joke, I have remarked on it here before -- two families intermarrying repeatedly at the first and second cousin levels since 1637. I will preempt RA1 by admitting that arguably proves your point. Quote
Members RA1 Posted September 15, 2013 Members Posted September 15, 2013 A preempt is when you open with 3 of a suit. Obviously there cannot be genetic consequences so the question has to be psychological, does it not? Best regards, RA1 AdamSmith 1 Quote
Members lookin Posted September 15, 2013 Members Posted September 15, 2013 Think of it! Should the two of them ever tie the knot, your friend's sister would be his new mother-in-law. And his niece. AdamSmith 1 Quote

Guest hitoallusa Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Or father-in-law.. lol.. How do you know whether the nephew is his sister's son? It could be their brother.. Think of it! AdamSmith Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 I agree. It is not acceptable. You think? Again, not meaning to be a pointlessly (well actually ) argumentative bitchess, how come not? Quote
TotallyOz Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Damn it Adam! I'll bite. I can't really tell you why. (and I knew you would ask) It is just a gut feeling I have. Kind of like I know it is wrong to pee in the pool. AdamSmith 1 Quote
AdamSmith Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Kind of like I know it is wrong to pee in the pool. Well. Ahem. Quote
Members RA1 Posted September 15, 2013 Members Posted September 15, 2013 Peeing in the pool is not accepted socially but not that harmful otherwise, unless the pee-er has a bladder infection. In the "old days", like when I was a boy, doctors actually tasted pee to see if a patient was diabetic. As some of us know, pee ingested or otherwise "enjoyed" must not be harmful or some of us would be very dead. Poop OTOH (scat again?) into the pool is not only not acceptable but down right dangerous. It is a no no. As far as coveting nephews, I think it is mainly up to the psyches of the individuals, not us or society in general. Best regards, RA1 AdamSmith 1 Quote
Guest hitoallusa Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Well the nephew is fully matured adult in his 50s and his uncle in his 70s. Maybe they find something in each other that no else can provide... I think there is so meaning to that.. Now I will be up in arms if the nephew were in his teens and his uncle coveted him.. Well if that were the case then I think they would need help.. Relationships are mysterious.. Maybe Cupid out of whim shot both of them with his arrows???? Then we need to sue Cupid.. I want him to punished severely anyway because I haven't met my love yet.. He must be lazy and not doing his job.. lol.. Quote

Some folks are not fully matured regardless of their chronological age, are they? What if the nephew in his teens coveted this uncle? Is that OK with you? I agree relationships are mysterious whether gay, straight or otherwise. We don't need to be instituting any more law suits in the US but perhaps Cupid can visit you soon. There is always Valentine's Day. Best regards, RA1 Quote

AdamSmith Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 I do confess to peeing in the ocean, though. Doing it pressed up against someone else, the warm flow on skin in the cold ocean, has its points too. Or I should say mutually doing it. Quote

Best regards, RA1 The last time some child pooped in the local community pool, they closed the pool for a week so that it could be completely emptied, sanitized and refilled. Quote

A former well-liked president married his fifth cousin (Franklin Roosevelt married Eleanor Roosevelt in 1905). They were, nonetheless, related by blood. A nephew/uncle relationship is unusual and a wee bit shocking, but is it any stranger than the marriage of the Roosevelts? For history buffs, here is a little article about the Roosevelts marriage. http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/franklin-roosevelt-marries-eleanor-roosevelt - Quote
