Well what do you know, there's an Ibis in the gayborhood! This is our top hotel pick for Belo Horizonte, with its close proximity and the affordable efficiency of the Ibis chain. As always there is free wifi and a decent complimentary breakfast.

6 Liberty Palace Hotel | Rua Paraíba 1465 | (31) 2121-0900 | http://libertypalace.com.br/hotel/

OK, so the artwork in the room is early yard sale. But the rooms are the kind you don't really see anymore spacious, and with real furniture, not Ikea. The pool area is bright and sunny. And it's in the gayborhood and has free wifi.

7 Best Western Sol | R. da Bahia, 1040 | 31 3311-1300 | http://www.hotelsolbh.com.br/

You can never go wrong with a Best Western when you're abroad, and this one's no exception. It's got the free wifi, the breakfast, and a decent set of junior suites if you want to spread out a bit. Get a high floor room for great views.

8 Ouro Minas | Av. Cristiano Machado, 4001 | (31) 3429-4001 | http://www.ourominas.com.br/en

Ouro Minas is the only five-star hotel in BH, so if you're up for a splurge, enjoy the pillow menu, the panoramic elevators, and in-house ATMs for withdrawing cash in safety. It's a gorgeous place that is worth every penny, even if it is outside of town a bit.

Gay and Gay Friendly Belo Horizonte Bars

1 A Obra | Rua Rio Grande do Norte, 1168 | (31) 3215-8077 | http://www.aobra.com.br/

A Obra is a party place in the party section of town, so even though there's a mixed crowd and more dancing than you may be used to in a club, it is definitely worth a visit. Check to see if they have live music or a DJ, depending on your preference for ambiance.

2 Mamãe Já Sabia | Av. do Contorno, 2317 | 31 3213-9063 | no website

This bar is open from Wednesday to Sunday, with weekend nights really packing them in with a friendly crowd that skews young and beautiful. Note that there's a cover charge that includes a drink, but it really has a bar vibe rather than a club vibe.

3 Tanganica Art Bar | R. Padre Demerval Gomes, 380 | 31 3376-7047 | no website

This bar is lesbian-heavy, but the mixed gay crowd is friendly and welcoming. There's live music nightly on the small stage, and its colorful interior mimics an outdoor cafe indoors. Their snack menu is good for sharing, or you can make a meal out of it on your own.

4 Damas & Valetes | Rua Antônio de Albuquerque, 862 | (31) 3243-0772 | http://damasevaleteslounge.blogspot.de/

This bar name translates to "Queens and Jacks," which should be easy to remember as soon as you enter the place is "decked" out in a playing card motif. It opens early, at 6pm, with happy hour being the most popular time to check out the scene here. But there are plenty of little nooks for flirting and more as the evening goes on.

5 Estação 2000 | R. Guajajaras, 1353 | (31) 3291.2984 | http://www.estacao2000.com

Part bar, part live music venue and with a lively mixed crowd, this joint is party central, with drag shows, go-go boys, and two levels of fun. Plenty of fine young things to feast your eyes on.

6 Tizé Bar e Butequim | Rua Curitiba, 2205 | (31) 3337-4374 | http://www.bartize.com.br/

This neighborhood joint is an actual bar, day and night, crowded with locals who snap up the outdoor tables for some prime people watching. If you're looking for great local food, this is the place a solid menu of favorites, lovingly prepared.

7 Bhar Savassi | Rua Sergipe, 1211 | (31) 3082-9232 | http://www.bhar.com.br/

Another non-gay bar, Bhar Savassi is gay-friendly just by dint of its location. It's a grand, two-story space that serves primarily as a venue for live music check out the instruments hung up everywhere but there are enough separate areas that you can have a drink and a chat without being drowned out by the music.

Gay and Gay Friendly Belo Horizonte Clubs/Discos

1 Josefine Club | Rua Antônio de Albuquerque, 729 | (31) 3269-4405 | http://www.josefine.com.br/

Shirtless DJs, shirtless go-go boys, shirtless dancers on the dance floor sometimes it seems like the drag queens that sashay through the crowd are the only ones with their ta-tas covered! The music is loud and the honeycomb light wall makes this the club extraordinaire in BH. Make sure to check out both levels to see which one you like best.

2 GIS Club | Av. Barbacena, 33 | 31 3295.2693 | http://www.gisclub.com.br/

GIS Club has theme nights but the thing that differentiates them is mostly the guest DJ or the live show. Otherwise it's your typical gay club not that we're complaining! Bring on the go-go boys and stripper shows, pelase!

3 New Eros Mix Club | Rua Aimorés, 1840 | (31) 3222-4002 | http://newerosmix.zip.net/

If a place has a weekly theme night called "The Boy Parade," you can be sure there is a good time to be had. There's also a steady stream of drag queens and plenty of other antics. A young crowd packs them in after 11pm.

4 Velvet Clube | Rua Sergipe, 1493 | (31) 3284-0836 | http://velvetclub.blogspot.com/

The Velvet Clube is a serious club, and by that we mean that they have well-planned theme nights and promote their DJs well. So, the crowd is a music-focused group that changes depending on who's playing, and they're there to dance. That being said, it's a ton of fun and there's never a lack of eye candy.

5 Mary In Hell | Rua Tomé de Souza, 470 | 31 3223-1964 | http://maryinhell.com.br/novo/

Young hipsters rule the night at Mary in Hell, so it's not so much drag queens and stripppers as it is excellent music and posing. If it's your scene, though, there's a lot of fun to be had.

6 Spice Men | Rua Juiz de Fora, 556 | (31) 3243-3610 | http://www.spicemen.com.br/

This is not a dance club, but a sex club that stresses discretion and safety above all. You can arrange private trysts at the club thorough a password system, or you can join in on the group sex parties. You must show ID and your membership card to enter, no exceptions; register via email per the isnrtuctions on their website.

7 Deputamadre | Avenida do Contorno, 2026 | (31) 9119-7061 | http://www.deputamadreclub.com/

This club is a major operation, with theme nights that have dress codes, a podcast, and an associated tattoo parlor during the day. It's a mixed het/gay crowd, but the gays here are very, very cool and just as serious about having fun. The DJ guests are top-notch, with electronica as the dominant sound.

8 On Board Club | Rua Tenente Brito Melo, 1233 | (31) 3275.3169 | http://www.onboardclub.com.br/

This sleek club welcoems a mixed crowd that skews heavily hetero, but it's worth a visit to see such a sight in this world of sometimes-trashy boates. It's a converted home that has a rabbit warren of small, connected rooms, and there is a waterfall out back!

9 Le Queen | Av. Amazonas, 1734 | 31 2127-0386 | http://www.lequeenclub.com.br/ (doesn't work)

Inspired by (a Brazilian take on) the Parisian club, Le Queen is a gay heaven in a city dominated by mixed-crowd clubs. There's always something on each night, although the crowd's main activity seems to be checking each other out. Too fab.

Gay and Gay Friendly Belo Horizonte Sauna/Massage

1 Sauna 24 Horas | Rua Timbiras, 2523 | (31) 3275-2001 | no website

Can you guess this sauna's operating hours? Yep, you guessed it, it's open 24 hours a day. And it has everything you've come to know and love from a gay sauna, including a dark room, video room, private cabins, a pool, and American-style bar.

2 Club Odeon Sauna | Avenida do Contorno 1328 | (31) 3421-6118 | http://clubodeon.com.br/

When else are you going to have the chance to go to a sauna whose exterior is a registered historical ladnmark? This sauna, located in a former movie house, has everything from a swimming pool to glory hole stalls and brings in a decent crowd that chills out to the DJ beats. A decent rent boy scene as well.

3 Sauna Olimpo | Rua Timbiras, 2635 | (31) 3335.4188 | http://www.saunaolimpo.com.br/

This sauna can sometimes draw an older crowd, but there are young hotties to be had. The rentboy seen is one of the best. There's also a dark room and they have shows nightly.

4 Sauna Tupis | Rua São Paulo, 940 | 31 3224-0871 | no website

While the clientele here is overwhelmingly gay, they do bill themselves as a mixed sauna and heteros do come here, so don't go sidling up to every guy you see. Also, there are not the usual amentities you used to finding at gay saunas, such as video rooms, dark rooms and the like. The ages vary greatly among the clients.

5 Sauna Carlos Turner | Av. Augusto de Lima 444 | 31 3222-2020 | no website

This is not the newest sauna you'll ever be in, but the good news is that this is one place where the saunas are the least of the attractions. It's more like a cruising area with spa facilities than a sauna where you can hook up. There are plenty of dark rooms and nooks, a bar and lounge, and a video room. Open seven days a week and even on holidays.

6 Sauna Très Chic Belo Horizonte | Rua Timbiras, 2040 | (31) 3226 7896 | no website

This sauna is smack in the city center, so it's super convenient, and it's known for being clean and comfortable. There are also multiple video rooms and a dark room for your naughty urges, and their cabins are large and pretty comfortable for a sauna. The clientele skews older, but don't let that keep you from going here.

7 Kratos | R. Tamóios, 06 | (31) 3309-0260 | http://www.saunakratos.com.br/home/

Kratos is a sauna, with the facilities you'd expect, but they're more of an afterthought. Instead, this place is more known for its drag shows, go-go boys, raucous parties, and it's also known as a gay and straight porn cinema, with separate entrance fees. There's a separate video room on the sauna level as well as a dark room.

8 Sauna Specific | Av. Álvares Cabral, 950 | (31) 3337 5787 |

This two-level sauna has a ton of private rooms, so if that's important to you there's always one available here and there are plenty of rent boys as well. It's also quite the scene, with the steam room being just as happening as the dark room. And the sauna facilities are top notch! If you're a bear or bear admirer, this is your place.

Gay and Gay Friendly Belo Horizonte Restaurants

1 Café com Letras | Rua Antônio de Albuquerque, 781 | (31) 3225-9973 | http://www.cafecomletras.com.br/

We're putting this in the restaurant category because their food is excellent, but it's worth a visit for its live music at night, and its bookstore during the day, and its reguarly scheduled cultural events. But back to the food there's a daily tasting menu, and their sandwiches and meat dishes will have you coming back time and again.

2 Baiana do Acaraje | Rua Antonio de Albuquerque, 440 | (31) 3264-5804 | no website

There's always something tempting on the menu here, and there's a gay and gay-friendly crowd that turns up the heat a notch good thing the beer they serve is ice cold.

3 Villa Paraty | Rua Rio de Janeiro, 1309 | (31) 3224-1220 | http://www.villaparaty.com.br/

This is more bar than restaurant, but their self-serve buffet will load you up before a night of partying for sure. Otherwise, they have everything from sake to Campari to drink, and live acoustic sets to accompany the chow-down.

4 Graciliano Lourdes | Rua Marília de Dirceu, 40 | (31) 3291-8193 | http://www.restaurantegraciliano.com.br/#conheca_Lourdes

This light, airy buffet restaurant is more high-end than you'd think from an "all you can eat" joint, with fresh dishes and a wide variety of quality food, and a decent place to eat if you're on your own as everyone's always up and about.

5 Território Gourmet | Rua Santa Rita Durão, 930 | 31 3261-9681 | https://www.facebook.com/pages/Territ%C3%B3rio-Gourmet/356134801084117

This hole in the wall is part bar, part buffet-style restaurant, and the perfect place to grab a quick bite and rub elbows with the neighborhood locals. You might want to avoid it on match days, though, as every table is packed with football fans.

6 Santafé | Rua Santa Rita Durão, 1000 | 31 3261-6446 | http://www.redegourmetbh.com.br/casa_participante.php?tit=santafe&id=5

This gorgeous space is the perfect place for a grown-up dinner, maybe on a date! They have a buffet as well as a full menu of delicious dishes that take inspiration from an internatioanl cuisine, so there's something for everyone.

7 Vila Árabe | R. Pernambuco, 781 | 31 3261-2172 | http://www.vilaarabe.com.br/

Don't overlook this place just because it's kind of weird to have Lebanese food in Brazil, but this open-front indoor space is welcoming, and the food is authentic, refreshing and delicious. They have a small place for live music, which can be distracting, so try to go on the quieter nights.

Gay and Gay Friendly Belo Horizonte Businesses/Organizations

This is a gay cinema that's barely about the films, and ALL about the cruising. So get in there, and get on it!

2 Cinema Espaço Roma | Avenida Paraná, 81 | 31 3201-8502 | http://cineromabh.blogspot.com
