Motorcycle Logic

Same logic as: "I don't wanna wear a condom."

Don't even try to understand it. Just assume he won't also stop at the stop sign.

I totally agree here. Don't try to understand cause there isn't any logic, or it is just totally strange.

I got a "fine" about 2 weeks ago in Pattaya. I was at the gym and as soon as I started the motorbike, I realized I needed to charge my phone, get some "Top Up" card. It was like 100-200 meters from the place where I was. I was stupid enough not to wear the helmet and I got cut. I still don't know where the guy came from but it was all sudden. It seems he was just waiting for me.

Anyway he wanted to take the motorbike ( which wasn't mine ) and wanted me to go to the Police station and pay the fine.

Now the funny part is, I was in the middle of the road when he stopped me. You know what he did ? He took the darn keys right out the igintion. Leaving me in the middle of the road with the big Honda Phatom motor bike dead as it could be, with cars all around. I guess he was afraid I drive off ? Well how bad was it to take the keys from me. I could barely move the bike. It is like driving a car without the keys and without the power steering wheels on. So he gave them back to me so I could park.

Then I asked " can I just pay here ? "

1 000 bahts he wanted. I wasn't happy as I was beind screwed lol, but hey that was my mistake and I had to pay the consequences.

Anyway he took the 1 000 bahts and sneak them in his pants and with a big smile start talking about Zinedine Zidane. He was just a fan.

I thought next time, we could just work out together at the gym and talk about Football ( Soccer ) and prevent the whole drama rama bike thing :)

Moral : Wear your helmet even if it is to drive the bike out of your garage........

What I don't understand is why they don't at least put on the helmet when approaching the police checkpoint. It is not as if these checkpoints move.

The other day, I was riding back from Chaing Rai to the home of the current boy special, and his cousin who was driving got pulled over at the police checkpoint because he wasn't wearing his seatbelt. I was somewhat mystified because we pass through this same police checkpoint every day, and the police are always there. There was even a long line of cars when we got to the checkpoint, so he had ample opportunity to put on the seatbelt.

I don't get it.

I just bought a new (to me) BMW R1200C and as a returing rider - that's what they call us old folk who haven't ridden a real bike for a while, quite a whlie actually - I'm exceedingly cautious when it comes to foolish risks while riding.

I am making sure I have all of the very best safety equipment I can afford, as well as reading all of the safety material I can get my hands on and here's a site that helps spur my risk mitiation.

WARNING: This site is VERY, VERY graphic. There are people here who have had major road rash, and other problems from not suiting up properly.

This site has people who have died in motorcycle accidents, movies of accidents, and some other items that "drive" home what a dangerous sport this is. Hopefully, this will be passed around and people may ride more defensively. Send it to a squid (varyingly attributed as a contraction of squirreley and kid, or an acronym for "Stupidly Quick, Underdressed, Ignorant and Dangerous" or "Stupidly Quick, Underdressed and Imminently Dead") if you know their e-mail address.

Don't click on the link if you have a weak stomach. I hope that's enough warning.

Live to Ride, Ride to Die

This is my motorcycle and no, I don't ride it sidesaddle...

That is indeed a very graphic web site. It probably won't help much, but I'm going to show it to my boyfriend in yet another attempt to convince him to at least wear the helmet. Even that's a problem. Most of the helmets I see people wearing are low quality. I don't know how much good they will do in the event of an accident, but at least it's something.

That's why I called this thread "Motorcycle Logic." They see it as almost a game they play with the police. Meanwhile, nearly every boy I see has at least one scar from a motorcycle accident. And still they don't want to wear the helmet.

As Pete1969 so aptly said, "I don't get it."

My helmet cost me 34,000 baht, my boots, 9600 baht, my jacket 15,000 baht, my gloves 3400 baht; all of the highest quality.

Next purchase is a touring suit running 24,000 baht

Canadian retail prices, naturally

It is bad on a motorbike but a good video for all car and bike owners to see at

bike crash

As a last resort take boyfriend down to the Police bike pound in Pattaya and look round the crashed bikes in there. Easy to find blood and gore in there. Just off Treppasite Road the link to Soi 17 Sunee on right between some shop houses.

Completely off the Motorcyc and car situation.

Today I went to Big C. In my shopping I bought Orange Juice!!. 'Squeeze' brand Orange Juice ,single carton 69 baht. If I buy two in a plastic bag I would pay the special price of 149 baht!!!!! Exactly the same brand and product.

Work that one out. Multi National Company.

There are other odd logic situations in that same vein through the same Company shelves!!!! You call someone "higher up " in management and they just laugh. Thes are Graduates from Uni with a Thai Marketing Degree.
