Members Lucky Posted August 25, 2013 Members Posted August 25, 2013 Well, I damn well hope not! It's not FRISCO! It's San Francisco. The battle to stop the use of Frisco has been going on since Herb Caen admonished in his column decades ago that you never call the city Frisco! But now it seems like the battle could be lost as Frisco is used a little more often by the ignorant. Members RA1 Posted August 25, 2013 Members Posted August 25, 2013 I never called it Frisco. I always called it SFO. Best regards, RA1 Quote
Guest Hoover42 Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 I never called it Frisco. I always called it SFO. Best regards, RA1 Gee, I wonder why Quote
Members RA1 Posted August 25, 2013 Members Posted August 25, 2013 Well, I could have mentioned OAK, SQL,HWD, PAO, SJC or a few others but then few would have understood the point. Those are nearby airports which are within easy driving distance of SFO. Best regards, RA1 Quote

See following article: http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/nativeson/article/Farewell-to-Frisco-say-hello-to-San-Fran-4759011.php I've always abhorred some folks calling San Francisco "Frisco." I do hope that this will be eradicated one of these days! Quote
Guest EXPAT Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 I used to live there and I never heard that and I certainly never used it. Quote
Members RA1 Posted August 25, 2013 Members Posted August 25, 2013 Was there not a railroad that used the name or nickname, "Frisco"? Probably absorbed by BNSF today as they have almost every thing west of the Smokies. Best regards, RA1 Quote
Members lookin Posted August 25, 2013 Members Posted August 25, 2013 Before the word is even out of his mouth, Mr. Frobisher realizes he shouldn't have called it Frisco. Quote
Members TampaYankee Posted August 26, 2013 Members Posted August 26, 2013 I believe Frisco was coined by B-movie mobsters long ago. Quote
Members RA1 Posted August 26, 2013 Members Posted August 26, 2013 I think the Frisco railroad (STL-SFO) was in existence long before there were B movies. Best regards, RA1 Quote
Members boiworship Posted August 26, 2013 Members Posted August 26, 2013 Sometimes I use it just to annoy Bay Area snobs. Quote
Members RA1 Posted August 26, 2013 Members Posted August 26, 2013 What??? There are snobs in the Bay Area? Your assertion astonishes me. Best regards, RA1 Quote
Members BigK Posted August 27, 2013 Members Posted August 27, 2013 As a native of the San Francisco Peninsula I have never used Frisco. But San Francisco and SFO are interchangeable to me as I fly in and out on average 10 times per year. San Fran is acceptable to natives. Quote
