Gaybutton Posted May 30, 2008 Author Posted May 30, 2008 So why is there an official from the USA at this briefing and no one from the UK for example? Also according to the article Sunee Plaza is being closely watched, whatever that means. I don't know, but you can bet she wasn't there making coffee for everybody. The current crackdown is the most intense I've seen. It could very well be that the US embassy is behind the crackdown and that's why an official was there. Sunee Plaza being closely watched means that you're taking an enormous risk if you engage in a sexual liaison with a boy even one day under age 18. My guess is that it isn't limited to just Sunee Plaza being watched. If this isn't enough to scare off the pedophiles, I can't imagine that anything will ever scare them off. Apparently many of them are still willing to take the risk no matter how great the chances are of being caught. I have somewhat mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, I don't like the idea that my tax dollars are paying for an American "Big Brother" (or "Big Sister") to be involved in what the Thai police are perfectly capable of doing on their own. On the other hand, I'm tired of a few pedophiles causing Pattaya to be regarded as a pedophile's haven and paradise. I'm tired of their actions causing problems and ruining things for everybody else. I am in favor of real action finally being taken to try to put a stop to to the pedophile activity or at least put the brakes on it. Unfortunately, in my opinion the pedophiles have no self control and are going to continue to be a problem no matter how heavy handed the police get. When someone is thinking with his crotch instead of his brain, then things like logic, caution, and self control don't even enter the thinking process at all. We're all paying quite a price because these guys don't seem to give a damn about anything other than how personally satisfying it is for them when they want to cum. Quote
PattayaMale Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 Slippery slope. In some countries, the use of "catching pedophiles" was used by the Christian Right to get at gay men. In the USA this happens today. The press is much more obsessed with the reporting of male on male pedophilia. The hope was that a stigma would be placed on all gays, especially gay men. From reports coming out of Thailand it looks that every gay person visiting Thailand must be coming here for under age male sex. Expats living here have settled here because they all like "young" boys. It does not matter that most are with males over 18. I am going to write a letter to Pattayamail asking why only male to male pedophilia is being reported and clamped down on. I hope others that wonder the same will do something similar. There have been some good posts here as to why this happens from an Asian view. I however do not think it is for this reason. I have noticed that there is a rise of western religious right NGO coming into Thailand. The groups I believe are well financed. I agree with Gaybutton. It is more important than ever to make sure that you know the real age of someone you off. But that is no guarantee. When raids begin in Thailand, it is an opportunity for police and scam artist to set traps. In Thailand you seldom win the "he said, he said game". I problem with the crack down is that it is at this point purely aimed at male-male pedophilia. Quote
Guest xiandarkthorne Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 "I did say that I was old, jaded and bitter, didn't I?--Xian" Yes you did say that, but I am afraid you only speak the truth in this case. Your reply made me smile and laugh. Thank you. When I get established in Chiang Mai in 13 month and 14 days, you will always have a place to stay if you choose to visit. Khor tose Hi Khor, Thank you for the kind offer. Sorry I haven't had access to the internet for a few days now as I am in Europe on another interminable ghost writing assignment. Are you really planning to set up home in Chiang Mai? I have never been there though it sounds a most interesting place. I do have relatives there but like my relaitves in Bangkok, they do not want me around in case I try to bed my nephews. Quote
