U.S. Citizen Services

Upcoming Consular Outreach Trip to Phuket, Pattaya and Udon Thani

Dear Phuket, Pattaya and Udon Thani Area American Citizens,

The Consular Section of the American Embassy in Bangkok is pleased to inform you of three upcoming Embassy consular visits to Phuket, Pattaya and Udon Thani. Please mark your calendars!

Consular staff will be available to provide consular services at the following dates and locations:

Friday, May 11, 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the Hilton Arcadia in on Karon Beach in Phuket

Friday, May 25, 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the Dusit Resort on Beach Road in Pattaya

Friday, June 8, 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the Charoensri Grand Royal hotel in Udon Thani.

Consular services for each of the above trips will be provided from 8:00 AM until 12:00 noon. Please watch for signs in the hotel lobbies pointing to the outreach location in Phuket and Pattaya. In Udon Thani we will be in the lobby area.

Please note that these will likely be the final outreach visits before summer. We hope to “take the show on the road” again in late August or September.

The following consular services will be available during our outreach visits:

*

Passport renewal applications ($67.00 or Baht 2546 for adult passports, and $82 or Baht 3116 for a child’s passport)

*

Notarial Services and Certified Copies ($30.00 or Baht 1140)

*

Absentee ballot application and voting abroad information

*

Social security, VA or other federal benefits question

(Please bring exact change!)

NOTE: Unfortunately, a recent upgrade to the ACS systems software requires additional processing for applications for extra visa pages. As a result, we will no longer be able to complete processing of extra visa pages during our outreach trips. We can accept applications, but the passports will have to be brought back to the Embassy for final processing the next day. The passports will then have to be picked up in person (or by a friend upon presentation of a letter of authorization signed by the applicant) at the Embassy. We regret any inconvenience caused by this change in procedure, and we are working on gaining authorization to begin mailing passports back to applicants as quickly as possible.

Additionally, Consular Reports of Birth can not be processed during consular outreach trips.

If you have any questions, please e-mail: acsbkk@state.gov or call the American Citizen Services Unit at: 02-205-4049.

We look forward to seeing you in Phuket on May 11th, Pattaya on May 28th and in Udon Thani on June 8th. Sincerely,

American Citizen Services

Those dates are all Sundays, not Fridays. Unless the embassy has somehow managed to cause Sundays to actually occur on Fridays, I'd say somebody at the embassy made a slight error.

It's midnight in Thailand at the moment. I'll call the embassy in the morning and see what I can find out.

I called the US Embassy this morning. I reached someone in American Citizens Services and explained what is on their web site.

He said, yes, there definitely must be some mistake because the embassy doesn't even have a consular visit scheduled for Pattaya at all in May. He asked for the URL of that announcement, which I qave him, and he put me on hold.

When he came back he said, "Sir, I don't know how you got that URL, but what you are looking at is our announcement for May, 2007, not May 2008."

He gave me the URL for the latest correct announcement, which is:

http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/embassy/wwc/r...may-9-2008.html

So, the announcement above would be just fine if you enter a time machine and go back a year.

Just so nobody is confused, there is no consular visit in either Pattaya or Phuket this month, and the Udon Thani visit has already come and gone. The posted announcement is incorrect.
