Members Lucky Posted July 20, 2013 Members Posted July 20, 2013 Did the new pope get tricked by the gay lobby into putting one of its own leaders in charge of the housecleaning of the Vatican? Called "The Prelate of The Gay Lobby," he is the star of an article in Italian magazine Espresso Republica, and they do seem to have the goods on this wily prelate once caught in an elevator car with his boyfriend. Their relationship scandalized the Church in Uruguay until he was shuttled off to the Vatican. Apparently the gay lobby got his file cleaned because nothing derogatory was in it when the Pope named him to the leadership position. Apparently, the Pope has now been advised of the trickery: http://espresso.repubblica.it/dettaglio/the-prelate-of-the-gay-lobby/2211440//0 English translation Quote

Members TampaYankee Posted July 21, 2013 Members Posted July 21, 2013 Whatever is old is new again. Read your papal history for precedent setting skeletons in the closet. (Words chosen carefully. ) This time it is not the Pope, it seems. Some of those Popes were party animals. Quote
AdamSmith Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Guardian reporting this story amplifies a bit on question of how could it have happened: ...It would have been standard procedure for him [Francis] to call in Ricca's personal file before making the appointment and – whatever the truth or otherwise of the claims against him – it is inconceivable that he would have gone ahead had he known about them. It is hard to imagine a more dangerous official for the pope than one charged with shaking up the IOR, yet acutely vulnerable to blackmail. What remains unclear is whether Vatican allies wiped Ricca's file clean of allegations after his return to Rome, or whether enemies of the pope's reform programme stripped them out before handing the dossier to Francis in an attempt to discredit both him and the programme. The IOR is already caught up in a separate scandal over an alleged plot to use it for the return to Italy of €2m (£1.7m) of evaded taxes. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/jul/21/gay-scandal-pope-francis-judgment Quote
