Gaybutton Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 Whether you liked the production or not, whether you liked the cheeseburger or not, you can not knock Chris's enthusiam when he gets involved with a project. I don't think anyone is knocking the enthusiasm. I think they're knocking the means by which that enthusiasm is expressed. In all honesty, the way this has been advertised I would have walked in expecting to see a production on par with something Bob Fosse or Harold Prince would have come up with. That's not what it was, and we are being told that if anything more than what actually took place was expected, then we just don't understand what community theater is supposed to be all about. Ok, I'll bite. What is community theater supposed to be all about? What should people expect? If I sit down to a production expecting far more than is delivered, then I leave greatly disappointed if my expectations aren't met. On the other hand, if I know in advance what to expect, and that's what I get, then I leave perfectly satisfied. Rather than being told that I don't understand community theater, or that the sought-after audience does not consist of the expat gay community here, and leaving it at that, then educate me. Obviously I don't have a clue what to expect and apparently many others are just as clueless. At this moment, all I know is people keep telling me if Max Bialystock had selected and staged the plays used in this first production as they were presented, then his scheme just might have worked. I truly have no idea what to expect from community theater. Quote
Guest PattayaPlayers Posted May 26, 2008 Posted May 26, 2008 Everyone has an opinion on how any organization could be run -- or could be better. These opinions always vary. People are often quick to criticize, but rarely "step-up" to help make a difference. Community Theater is a continuum of growth. The more people get involved, the better it gets. So, while feedback is always welcomed and warranted -- personal involvement is what creates change. With that in mind, why not step in and be part of the growth as opposed to just idly (and anonymously) putting it down on discussion boards? Here's your opportunity. Come out and meet us, find out what we are and what we hope to do -- and then, help us do it. Community Theater is about "community" just as much as it is about "theater." Guest fountainhall Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 you can not knock Chris's enthusiam when he gets involved with a project Perfectly true. Without people with enthusiasm and passion, life would be a pretty dull affair. I will say that the website has improved a great deal since I first visited and they have a very impressive list of sponsors. So I'll conclude my comments with 'Good luck for the future'. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 This is my first opportunity to read the board since I saw the productions of Pattaya Players. Typical postings!!!! Critically, I have to say, although the plays and performances were not "top notch" I did enjoy having some bit of culture in Pattaya. It is rare. I certainly will see future productions if the people who do nothing but piss and moan about everything don't manage to undermine the group. If we don't support this it will go away and we, once again, will have no culture in Pattaya. Congratulations to Chris. He has taken on a major undertaking and managed to pull it off. Quote
