Gaybutton Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 I'm sure many of you know Robbie, of Le Café Royale hotel in Pattaya. I am sorry to have to report that I have just been informed that he has passed away as a result of his long battle with cancer. I understand he was in Amsterdam when he died and that is where funeral arrangements are being made. I also understand a memorial service will take place for him in Pattaya, but I have no information yet about a date, time, or place. If anyone is able to obtain any information before I do, please post it. It is so sad. So many people have passed on so recently. Both Ians from Le Café Royale are gone, WowPow, and now Robbie. My condolences to his family and to his many friends. It is yet another terrible loss for us all. Quote
Guest buaseng Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 Devastating news but, unfortunately, not entirely surprising given the damage that the jaw cancer, and its treatment, had caused and the fact that his immune system had been compromised for many years. Robbie was the first Pattaya expat I ever met and he was always extremely helpful to me on my regular visits. He, together with the dearly departed Ian McKnight, could always be relied upon to provide help and support without question to regular visitors to LCR. Nothing was too much trouble for Robbie in his quest to make all the hotel's customers stay as comfortable as possible. He will be sadly missed. Pattaya is a poorer place for his passing. RIP Robbie Quote
Guest zzrichard Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 It is very sad to hear that Robbie has passed. He was one fine man and I will miss him. He was always in good humor and tried never to show his pain. Some years back, when I was staying at Cafe Royale, I had forgotten to inform my bank in the States that I would be in Thailand. About three days before it was time to depart, I could not withdraw any money and told Robbie of my problem (I used TC's for playing and the bank for paying bills). He laughed and then wrote down his personal bank account and told me to wire the owed money to him when I returned to the States. Moments later he came back on the terrace and asked me how much "play" money did I have left. Feeling like an idiot, I told him I had about 500 baht. He started smiling again and took 10000 baht from his wallet and handed it to me. Said that I would probably get bored just sitting around doing nothing for the next few days. Robbie, take care my friend. I will never forget you. Quote
Guest luvthai Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 During my earlier trips to Pattaya I always stayed at the Cafe Royale and always enjoyed Ian and Robbie. Both men have done so much for the gay movement in Pattaya and will always be remembered for their support. I will miss seeing Robbie. My thoughts are with him! Quote
