Members ihpguy Posted June 23, 2013 Members Posted June 23, 2013 Under eighteen miles from Congonhas to Guarulhos - last week TAM was having problems getting their crews to work at Guarulhos, SP's international airport, as the demonstrators were closing down the expressways in Sampa by physically blocking them with live demonstrators. They solved it by flying in some crews from Congonhonas, the in-city airport that serves as the ponte area/air bridge to RJ and as well as other closer destinations. flipao and wayout 2 Quote
Members RA1 Posted June 23, 2013 Members Posted June 23, 2013 Over the years there have been some "interesting" flights by the airlines. One being DL flying a 747 from ATL to JAX to park it there for cheap storage overnight. Possibly the shortest flight when the carrier expected to make money by filling up the flight for such a short flight. But, there are others, AA would fly a DC-10 to BDL for the same reason. Bridgeport, CT has lots of commuters to NYC and this flight would fill up for a very few minutes flight. But, cheap overnight storage. I think you are meaning there was another reason for these flights other than cheap storage overnight. Best regards, RA1 Quote
Members ihpguy Posted June 23, 2013 Author Members Posted June 23, 2013 Well, it wasn't to fly from Meio Mundo to Pointe 202 to see if the selection of sauna boys was any better. TAM needed to somehow get there crews to the Guarulhos to work some flights. The demonstrators were blocking the roads and the bus trip airport/citycenter was at about 5 1/2 hours. There are photos on GLOBO of people literally walking on the highway with their rolling luggage trailing behind them. I thought that it was a quite inventive solution to keep the airline running. The US airlines were delayed 6-10 hours in some cases. flipao 1 Quote
Members wayout Posted June 23, 2013 Members Posted June 23, 2013 Very inventive as you say to keep things on schedule. I wonder if the flights they were able to get off on time were mostly empty because the passengers didn't have that option and couldn't get to the airport on time Do you think that with such a short distance they even raise the landing gear?
