Members wayout Posted June 25, 2013 Members Posted June 25, 2013 I'm aware of her but have never seen one of her shows on the Food Network (at least all the way through) and haven't tried any of her recipes. So I would say I am pretty indifferent to her for the most part. Here is my overall take on her and her situation. As far as I know she isn't on the cutting edge of culinary arts or is particularly creative so what she has going for herself is an image and a personality more than anything else. Does she deserve what is happening to her? Probably not so much on a human level,as she has failings and weaknesses just like the rest of us. But on the business side of it, she should be very aware that everything is fair game when it comes to her image so by not taking good enough care to protect that image (especially if some of the claims are relatively recent) she faces the consequences. It comes down to a business decision based on dollars for those that do business with her and she knows that as well as anyone. I suspect that after the whole mess with her "coming out" as diabetic, the Food Network put her on double secret probation and the latest revelations was just too much to overlook. Quote
Guest FourAces Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 On the Today Show she blurts out she has had wonderful support from Rev Jackson ... is he still even vital anymore? She also asks if anyone has never said something they wish they had not to take a stone and throw it as hard as they can at her head .... him don't know about you guys but I am thinking of a new idea for a carnival game Do I think she is a racists .... probably not. Do I feel she is a insincere hippocratic who needs to finally pay some consequences, absolutely! Quote
Members JKane Posted June 26, 2013 Members Posted June 26, 2013 On the Today Show she blurts out she has had wonderful support from Rev Jackson ... is he still even vital anymore? Reminds me of the South Park where they establish he is not, in fact, "The King of all Black People". Quote
AdamSmith Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Reminds me of the South Park where they establish he is not, in fact, "The King of all Black People". LOL. Exactly. Best putdown ever was in "Barbershop," character Eddie (played by inimitable Cedric the Entertainer) finally driven to scream in outrage: "Fuck Jesse Jackson!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=MAn36ziR2Kw Quote
AdamSmith Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 As for "over 25 years ago," I think the Atlanta paper article above suggests it ain't a one-time thing. (When is it ever?) Anyway, when you live by the hollow image, better be ready to die by it. Quote
Guest josephga Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 I can't stand Jesse Jackson or al Sharpton. Al lives to cry and scream racist to everything & imo are as guilty of it as those they accuse. Quote
Members Suckrates Posted June 27, 2013 Members Posted June 27, 2013 Paula Deen is a product of Southern upbringing. Is she racist ? Maybe, and she has every right to believe what she wants to believe, right or wrong, BUT when you are a PAID spokesperson representing major corporations, you are OBLIGATED to supress your own beliefs and promote the image of the company, and NOT create any controversy and ill will. Therein lies THEIR right to terminate her. I also feel her comments would not have been received so severely during deposition had she NOT answered "SURE" so enthusiastically when asked if she ever used the N word.. That reply alone set the tone and gave the impression that she felt it was "normal" and "acceptable" to use those words.... Paula Deens biggest issue is controlling her tongue. THINK before you speak Bitch and edit, edit, EDIT ! wayout and AdamSmith 2 Quote
Members ihpguy Posted June 27, 2013 Members Posted June 27, 2013 She lost all relevance for me when she became the paid shill for the diabetes drug. On another note, I ate at the Lady and Son in Savannah in about 1998. It was good southern country food, Not great, but good. Nothing to build a career on in my mind. I will admit that the restaurant's steam table fried chicken, when eaten right out of the fryer were good, But it is that way anywhere if they are going to use a skillet. I suppose I had higher expectations. I have a black friend whose Mom made greens and banana pudding that could make you cream in your manpanties, they were both so good. Quote

AdamSmith Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 New Allegations Say Paula Deen Paid Black Employees in Alcohol posted by DeadState June 26, 2013 Adding to disgraced chef and cooking show host Paula Deen’s woes, new allegations have surfaced from a former employee who worked at one of Deen’s restaurants. The oyster cook, who is African American, claimed that during his time at the restaurant, Deen regularly made him and other employees work the parties on her Savannah estate without pay — instead being compensated with alcohol. Paula and [her brother] just gave us beer and alcohol and I don’t even drink. It was insulting and unfair. I was like, ‘Pay me!’ She knew I had just gotten married. I had a baby on the way. I needed the money and I was the only one to step up and complain over it because half the kitchen just needed their jobs. I was fired over it in the end because I’m not afraid to speak my mind. Deen allegedly threatened to fire the restaurant employees if they refused to work the parties. The new allegations come on top of a lawsuit filed against Deen and her brother Bubba Hiers, which claims the pair discriminated against black employees — even constantly referring to one as “my little monkey.” http://deadstate.org/new-allegations-allege-paula-deen-paid-black-employees-in-alcohol/ Quote
Members Suckrates Posted June 30, 2013 Members Posted June 30, 2013 Seems like poor Paula may need to go on Welfare if this keeps up ? Although I dont condone her behavior, i think we BoyToy members should collect and send her a nice care package, perhaps a pre-sliced spiral canned-ham, and some "I Can't Believe its NOT butter".... It will lessen the blow, and help her adjust to life in a cardboard box..... Its always comforting to know that people are thinking about you ! AdamSmith 1 Quote

Guest josephga Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 forget being racist. she is just a bad business woman. All this stuff her brother did calling people monkey watching porn on a lap top at work. he should have been fired years ago. she said her younger employees said allot of bad language in her kitchens. Well then they should have been fired as well. If African Americans don't like those words then set an example and don't use them themselves. She closed her eyes to allot of stuff going on around her. good news. she's made millions so I doubt we will see here in the welfare lines anytime soon. I heard yesterday her upcoming cookbook has been delayed. Quote
Guest FourAces Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 Her foodie empire was 17 million per year. The fourth highest paid celebrity chef. As I mentioned before I doubt she is a racists I think she is simply stupid. And she sure has not helped her cause any in any interview she has done related to the issue. Apparently the consequences to date are not a concern to her Quote
Guest josephga Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I think they are making to much out of it. she was honest when they asked if she ever said it. plus it was years ago. Quote

Members ihpguy Posted July 9, 2013 Members Posted July 9, 2013 I haven't revisited this thread in quite a while and I thought this was a new one. I clicked on it with great relish thinking "what has she done now?" My first thought was the she'd modified her language and there were reports of her using words like spearchucker, jiga youknow what or j******unny. And then I thought no, it had to be something food-related like calling Padma Lakshmi one of my favorite dot head friends. But, not that either. But I do love the Gone With The Wind poster. Quote
Members ihpguy Posted July 9, 2013 Members Posted July 9, 2013 Where do you guys find this stuff? I have more basic thoughts. Like what does she look like without the wigs and the pancake makeup? I keep thinking of Shirley MacLaine as Debbie Reynolds in Postcards From The Edge. Quote
