TotallyOz Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 The drink prices on Soi Twilight are 250 baht up for anything you drink and this is not even at show-time or weekends. They go up on weekends. The lady bars are half that price and even less. The owners of the gay bars are making a killing off of the prices of the drinks. I have decided that I will spend much less time here than in other places. The quality of the boys are not as good as Pattaya, I hate the same old sex shows time after time and the prices for drinks just keep going through the roof. For me, a night of bar hopping is not possible at these prices and you have to choose one or two bars maximum to not break the wallet. I just decided to spend more time in other cities after seeing the lackluster of boys in all the bars last night combined with the crazy prices. Quote

I am glad that you mentioned the prices of the drinks in Bangkok. Since I did not go to the Lady Bars I never realized there was such a drastic difference in drink prices. I only knew that the prices were higher than here in Pattaya. However, I just compared hanging out at the bars in Bangkok to a night out in New York City where everything is pricier. Quote

On my budget I am limited to some bar hopping, even at 250TB, but not those pricey dinners at Manhattans in Pattaya nor those fishing boat cruises as noted in other posts. 5555 Quote
Guest Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 GT, I have to agree with Laurence here. While, of course, I realize that it is extremely poor taste to count other people money, the way you described your vacations, I have to admit I would never be able to afford anything even remotedly closed to that. Having said that, I never pay attention to prices of drinks, since it is negligible in overall travel budget and I usually give very big tip while in the bars, anyway. For my birthday, I went to Manhattans and took a boat trip. One day a year. I don't do this 365 days a year. I wish I could afford it but I can't. As for drinks, I have no problem in Pattaya bring over a few gogo boys for drinks and talking to them and chatting. I do the same with many mamasans. But, for 270 a drink in Bangkok, I won't do that. I won't have 5 boys over to find the right one. I won't invite a boy over just because I think he is cute and want to say hi. As I said, I do go to all the bars. The bars that change the high prices were very slow and few there. The ladyboy bar that charged me 90 baht for a water was packed and we had to wait for a seat. I also ordered more drinks for that rate. In a bar that charges 270 a drink, I will only have one drink and if I find a cute boy, I'll walk over and tip him a 100 baht as opposed to paying the house 270 or 250 baht for a drink. As I have always said, what others do with their money is their business. I just have no desire to spend 250 for a drink in a bar that has lack luster boys and few superstars. If it had either of those things, I would not care as much. But, the truth is that every bar on this Soi I have been into this weekend and only found 4 guys I would consider. One is a waiter at Future and the off is 600 bath. Another is a doorman at a bar and I am not sure his off and one boy from Dreamboys and one from X something. Other than those, I much prefer the boys at the massage parlors. Quote

Since I was with GT on this tour, my 2 cents is I totally agree. If you have a boy with you and stop at just 3 bars, you have spent 25-2600 baht if you just ask 1 boy over for a drink at each bar... If you are alone you would spend 1600-1800 baht. Add to this 400 baht for the off and tips and you have spent probably close to 2500 baht before you get home with your choosen one. The good looking boys in BKK expect minimum 1500 baht so now you are at 4000 baht . Just ridiculous when you realize that in Pattaya the drinks can be as low as 70 baht at beer bars and no more then 130 baht anywhere. The offs are 300baht and most boys are more then happy with 1000 baht. Total cost for your choice maybe 2000 baht. I will admit it is harder to find the athletic type or muscle in Pattaya but they are there, just requires a little more work. Quote
PattayaMale Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 I appreciate the information given by LP, but I feel that drink prices for Thailand at 250 up is too high. It is not a matter of being able to afford it or not. I just choose not to pay that. I feel I get little benefit compared to Pattaya. Tonight at Come In bar in Sunee Plaza there were several well built guys. I and a few farangs went there after dinner. My iced coffee was 70 baht. One of the hosts sat and talked about 40 minutes. Great English and fun. When the host needed to; he got up and did his waiter duties. Gave the normal tip of 100 to the host and 20 baht for the bar. 2 drinks and a nice fun chat with a sweet guy was under 300 baht for over an hours worth on entertainment. By the way, the electric in Sunee Plaza went out about 9pm. The host bars lighted candles and placed them around......very romantic Quote
atri1666 Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 I agree with PattayaMale. The old system was better. Pay high price for the first drink and normal price for the following drinks in showbars. I am rich enough to pay the prices but i dont like to waste my money. Come In Bar and La Cage are my favorites in pattaya. Will see it in may when i stay 2 weeks in bangkok before going to hongkong and singapore. Quote
Guest laurence Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 Probably, like me, most members enjoy reading the experiences and adventures of GT and no doubt, like me, get a little envious that we were not part of his company. So, I like to tweak him a little with a gentle reminder that not all of us "poo boys" had the wherewithal to be financially successful. I even have to dig deep into my pocket for $5.00 for the Sunday edition of the NYTimes just to read the travel adventures of the rich and famous, which I will never be. Besides, I think GT likes to provoke and tease his readers, followers, detractors, admirers to contribute their few bahts worth of opinion. Quote
Guest Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 You are right, I probably would not have complained if the boys had been great! However, they were not and I don't like paying for the price of drinks when no sexy boys are on stage. Dream Boys always had great gogo boy and so did Future Boys. Neither did on this trip. If they were fantastic, I would have paid the price and not complained. I just did not like to sit in a bar full of average looking gogo boys and not have an interest in them and yet still pay 250-270 a drink. I much preferred the massage parlors in Bangkok. And, I love B and N. But, to each his own. Quote
