Guest MRSBUCKET Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Brian passed away today Some of you will remember ‘Walter & Brian’ who lived in Pattaya. They had a coffee shop for a while at Rabbit Resort on the beach at Jomtien. Walter died some time ago and now Brian has passed on today. Brian, I believe was from New Zealand. I hope he has met up with Walter again as they were such a nice couple. At this time I don’t have any further details about what happened or any funeral arrangements. Good bye to another from Pattaya. Quote
Guest Khunatm Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Thanks for the news Mrs B…first again. Please, no offence meant. But seriously, this is very sad news. I first got to know Walter and Brian soon after I “settled down” in Pattaya, a few months after arriving about eight years ago. Not only was Walter a very good cook, but they were very good hosts. To some of us, a rather unique combination, even after they moved from the front of the Rabbit Resort. I will never forget the sun set memorial service for Walter on Jomtien/Dongtan beach. His friends, there were many, were standing together on the beach in the sand with dusk emerging from the Palm trees behind us. We were all given a lotus flower and just before we cast our precious gem into the reversing tide, Bunny started to sing a beautiful Maori song that I recognized. It was mournful, but so very beautiful and so appropriate. In an instant any friendly animosity this ozzie held for our neighbours seemed to float away, just like the spectacular sunset we were part of for just a few glorious minutes. It was the most beautiful wake I have ever been too. And that means no disrespect to Dave of Pattaya, the one and only Syd W, brilliant Boxer, lovely Ian Mac, the affable Dave M, wonderful Ian R and of course dear Deer Terry. The reality is, this all makes me reflect, be a tad sad but enormously grateful too. I suspect those of my vintage will understand what I mean. Brian, thanks for the good times and the marvellous memories. I really hope you and Walter are reading this. If not, then I feel so good to express just how much I appreciated and miss the both of you and I know there are so many others who will echo my sentiments. Brian, may you Rest in Peace Quote
Guest MRSBUCKET Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 I will never forget the sun set memorial service for Walter on Jomtien/Dongtan beach. His friends, there were many, all had their trousers rolled up around their knees. We were all standing together on the beach in the sand as the water lapped around our ankles with dusk emerging from the Palm trees behind us. We were all given flowers, frangipane I think, and just before we cast our precious little gem into the reversing tide, Bunny started to sing a beautiful Maori song that I recognized. It was mournful, but so very beautiful and so appropriate. In an instant any friendly animosity this ozzie held for our neighbours seemed to float away, just like the spectacular sunset we were part of for a just a few glorious minutes. Khunatm Thoughts of that occassion came flooding back. I have some pic's of that time and also of Walter & Brian. I add these here. God bless you both. Quote
Guest geneman Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Would just like to join in with the sentiments expressed in earlier entries. A lovely couple of friendly, warm people who will be sadly missed. We seem to be losing a whole generation of expats from Pattaya which is perhaps reflected in the falling number of visitors to the resort over the past couple of years. Our thoughts with Walter and Brian's families and friends at this sad time. Quote
