These questions may have been asked before, but I am curious if there is a "average number" that applies. For example, a typical year would 5 or 10 be a average? Did your number of hires go down when street hustling and/or rentboy bars like Stella's and Numbers went out of business?

Some years back I counted up somewhere around fifty distinct escorts give or take. That doesn't take into account multiple engagements. I saw a couple of guys as much as a dozen times or more. All of that occurred over four or five years before I retired from my six figure income. The majority of that probably happened over a three year period.

In the latter couple of years I moved on to favoring the Montreal club scene and boys sprinkled with escorts here and there, usually Canadian.

Once I hired an escort and his boyfriend -- both Aussies. The main hire was an overnight and the BF joined us for an hour. Lots of fun. My only multiple hire.

Sorry to say that I missed out on the street scene and Stella's-type venues. I was just getting comfortable with Stella's when they closed her down.

I started hiring 35 years ago, and during my prime years, I hired between a half dozen and a dozen times per year. I hired a total of about 300 times, and most escorts were hired only once or twice--the maximum for a single escort was eight times over a seven year period. When and how often usually depended on opportunity and my budget, so sometimes I hired three or four times within a couple of days, but would often go for months without hiring at all. The numbers tailed off as I got older, and it has been a few years now since my last hire; I don't anticipate any future hires, since I no longer find it satisfying.

There are a lot of things that might make hiring not satisfactory. Among them is the dollars required, the dealing with a "newbie" at least a newbie to you, your current physical situation and your current mental situation.

However, this situation suggests that hiring is "only" a one night stand and not for any longer term relationship. I can completely understand a reluctance to think that a longer term relationship is worthwhile. But it might be rewarding or it might be a bummer.

We all have to decide what is relevant to each and go from there.

The most I hired on one year was probably around 500. That was when I first started going to Thailand and spent 6 months there one year and 3 in Brazil.

I am older now and my drive is not the same as it was. Last year was a slow year at around 30. I hope to improve on those numbers this year.

I have 2 long term guys that live with me in Thailand now and they keep me very happy sexually. When I am in Sao Paulo, my long term guy sees me every day. Both situations tire me out.

I thought I would fall in mid range on this survey but now maybe not! :-) I started hiring in 1995 and the first year hired 2 or 3 guys, can't quite remember, in 1996 maybe 5 guys, then i found the Gaiety and Stella's in NYC and Numbers in L.A. and the Boardwalk in Miami and the number of hires kinda exploded but not near as much as when I went to Rio for the first time in October of 2001!! My first trip to Rio I went with a BF and had never been exposed to this many hot guys available at one time and we both went kinda crazy. During that 10 day trip I did somewhere around 50! Since about 2005 or so I haven't hired in the U.S. , confining my hiring to Brazil, Prague, Barcelona and London.

as a side note, in 2003/4 the exchange rate was somewhere around $3.83 R to the doller so a hour in a room with a guy at the sauna cost approx. $13.05!

maybe 20-30 per year beginning in the mid-nineties. then in about 2007 or so, started dropping off a lot when I began preferrning picking up guys from dance clubs, especially in Montreal. Still prefer that kind of action to flat out hiring so I would say it's been just once a year or so recently for actual hiring. And in answer to ZZ's questions about whether I regret the amount of money I spent on hiring... no. It's hard to regret money spent on all the vices (porn, booze, gambling, whatever else is your vice) because you are deriving instant gratification for your $, and if not spent on that, obviously on something else. But would that money come in handy now? Different question.... and, of course!

PS: Followup to ZZ's question about why you really can't regret money spent on hiring. Now that I am cruising rather than hiring, not sure it's cheaper. There's a lot of ancillary expense related to "courting".

I agree with marcanthony--there are too many things one has spent money on that one could regret (those gold flannel pants! that 1971 Renault 12! etc.). Best to forget about it.

Of course the money would come in handy but I have never regretted spending money on this. It brings great joy and happiness and I could not have imagined my life without wandering into the Gaiety when I first moved to NYC. It opened new doors to me in more ways than one.

Regrets about the money? Absolutely not.

I regret spending on an individual here or there that was disappointing but very few of those. And as part of the overall experience no regrets. It was a lot of money to me but it opened up a whole new life that I had fantasized about for a lifetime. How could anyone regret that?

As I reflect on it, it was a bargain, as expensive at it was. I'd still be spending at or near that rate if I could afford it in retirement and my weary bones could withstand the buffeting. I can honestly say it was the best time of my life over such an extended period.

I've always hired moderately over the many years since I started with escorts. By moderately I mean every few months, so on average 3 to 4 times a year. I've found that a good pace for me to keep things exciting. I truly enjoy the process of finding a new/different escort to hire, making the detailed arrangements and I get a thrill from the anticipation of the meeting. That frequency also fits well into my preference for longer appointments (like overnights or evenings).

Occasionally, like on a vacation, I will deviate from that and hire more frequently but that is the exception rather than the rule for me.

I've tried a three-way only once. Somehow I felt I needed to at least try it to know one way or the other whether I would like it or not. Turns out I didn't enjoy it that much and wasn't for me.

I never have regretted the money spent overall, but of course there have been some occasional dud where that money spent was regretted.

Interesting question. When I was much younger I almost never spent any money on anything "personal", just necessities + whatever was available to make my business go. Later I had a bit more money and decided that what good was money going to be for me when I was pushing daisies? So, I tried to make considered decisions on what to spend and how much but then didn't worry about it after making the decision. Although with the current economy I am not making as much money as in the past, I don't regret spending it, partly because I thought about all that then, before spending it.

However, as a corollary, if I had known I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself.
