Guest EXPAT Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 This is an example where the public sector could learn a lot from the private sector. Budget cuts are the norm in all businesses but the government can't seem to function that way. Quote
Members RA1 Posted February 24, 2013 Members Posted February 24, 2013 I think it is shameful that BO is using "scare tactics" in describing the potential effects of a modest budget cut. Isn't it just a reduction in the amount of increase? Isn't where the budget is cut exactly up to BO? Therefore does that mean he is choosing to close airports, reduce food stamps, etc.? Of course, the bureaucracies are not helping their own credibility by also using the same scare tactics. But then what government agency ever "thinks" about what they are doing in relation to the benefit of the average US citizen? First they think about protecting their own empire. There are at least two possible remedies. One being the executive branch which now seems to be leading the scare war and the other being Congress which has the spine of a wet noodle. Guest hitoallusa Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 That's because people working inthe government who have authority to implement budget cuts are elected. They have to keep their constituents happy and keep their ection promises. This is an example where the public sector could learn a lot from the private sector. Budget cuts are the norm in all businesses but the government can't seem to function that way. Quote

Guest EXPAT Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 True to a point, but there are many things that can be learned in government from the private sector. And when people say that's impossible then they are truly naive. Quote
AdamSmith Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Horrible analogy, government is not a business and it can't be run like one. Well, yea and nay. State governments manage their affairs, perforce, a good deal more like businesses than the federal behemoth manages. Not being able to run deficits ad infinitum is one productive reality check. Members RA1 Posted February 25, 2013 Members Posted February 25, 2013 How the federal government is run is more like a religion than a business. A lot of faith may be required but some cash is welcome also. Best regards, RA1 AdamSmith 1 Quote
