Guest CharliePS Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 I don't think you will find many gun control advocates at Big Bear Lake today; they all want guns to protect themselves against rogue ex-cops. This story was made to order for the NRA. Quote

Members RA1 Posted February 9, 2013 Members Posted February 9, 2013 Some polls show Maniac Cop to currently be more popular in LA than the LAPD. In LA a minor traffic accident can cause the very real possiblity of an air crash. Why? All those newsies helicopters converging on the same point at the same time. How many other places would you get a minute by minute, several different angles and views of say OJ "fleeing" at 30 MPH in a white vehicle? Way too much air time available and way too few "real" stories. Best regards, RA1 Quote
BiBottomBoy Posted February 9, 2013 Author Posted February 9, 2013 I think a maniac cop on the loose is a legit news story. Quote

Members RA1 Posted February 9, 2013 Members Posted February 9, 2013 I think a maniac cop on the loose is a legit news story. Of course. But, all too often, hasn't 15 minutes of fame turned into 15 days of drudgery? I won't even go into the "early" inaccuracies. Best regards, RA1 Quote
AdamSmith Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Of course. But, all too often, hasn't 15 minutes of fame turned into 15 days of drudgery?Trying to think what I would pay to return to the old once-a-day news cycle. If only. Quote
Members RA1 Posted February 9, 2013 Members Posted February 9, 2013 I like to read the local morning newspaper but I don't bother until the end of the day. I already know all the "news" contained therein and if the world is coming to an end, I will likely know it soon enough. However, there are columnists I like to read and sometimes other in depth articles of note + I need to see who died that I know. Last, but certainly not least, the comics just before bed time usually set the tone for a peaceful rest. I very rarely watch TV "news". However, I made an exception to watch Nemo developing. The Weather Channel is my friend. Best regards, RA1 Quote
Guest CharliePS Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 I read yesterday they shot into a car thinking it was him and hit others. those in the car are now seeking an attorney This, of course, is exactly the kind of incident that the killer wants, since he is determined to damage the reputation of the LAPD. The two women occupants of the pickup (same model and color as the killer's) happened to be delivering early morning newspapers in the neighborhood of one of the killer's declared targets. Quote
Members RA1 Posted February 9, 2013 Members Posted February 9, 2013 Without a doubt, it is damaging to any group to shoot into the vehicle without knowing who is inside, etc. However, like many "news" reports these days, the early version may not be the final one, never mind, the correct one. Best regards, RA1 The police chief has now admitted that the truck was not the same model or color, and he doesn't believe that any verbal warning was given to the women to stop before numerous rounds were fired into it (there are bullet holes not only in the truck but in many neighbors houses and cars). Police, who were "on edge with tension," were suspicious because it was moving slowly down the street in the early morning dark, stopping and starting as though it were looking for a house (an elderly woman was driving while her daughter, the deliver, told her where to stop so she could throw out a copy of the LA Times). Members RA1 Posted February 9, 2013 Members Posted February 9, 2013 There is no "relief" from civil servants who have done wrong, is there? I have never been an apologist for the police but they are the new centurions who stand between us and criminals at large, are they not? These guys will have to take the consequences for their actions but that does not make the police force bad, does it? I think the guilty should be punished and we move on, with them doing their best to protect the public. Best regards, RA1 Quote

Best regards, RA1 The police force is not necessarily "bad" but the LA Times seems to have stories (often short ones in the back pages) almost daily of trigger-happy police involved in questionable shootings. Even the killer ex-cop they are after is a productof the LAPD. It certainly seems that something is awry in the LAPD culture. Quote
Members RA1 Posted February 9, 2013 Members Posted February 9, 2013 We could go on with an analysis of this for a very long time. There are parallels in the "spy game" and the military, at least to the extent that if one is dealing with bad guys or terrorists or criminals all day long, there is a tendency to view a disproportionate percentage of society as being one of "them". A completely understandable opinion but one that must be guarded against, if not by each individual, then, for sure, by those in charge. Leadership is everything in these matters. Each and every one of the above mentioned groups needs a change in leadership periodically. On the federal level, that is usually acomplished with a change of administration or more often. On the local level, not so much. Likely the LAPD needs a change in leadership, if not a bit more. Best regards, RA1 Quote
BiBottomBoy Posted February 10, 2013 Author Posted February 10, 2013 Anyone see the news report that Charlie Sheen has offered to talk to the guy and get him to turn himself in? http://www.tmz.com/2013/02/09/christopher-dorner-charlie-sheen-lapd-manhunt/ Quote
Guest CharliePS Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 One story that doesn't seem to have got any play outside local news is that shortly after the LAPD shot the women delivering newspapers, police in the neighboring town of Torrance rammed into another pickup and shot at the driver, claiming that they thought it was Dorner, although the truck was the wrong make and color, and the driver was a small white man. So much for a smart, disciplined police force. As the man's lawyer remarked, "When Torrance issues this ridiculous statement [their official news release] saying he wasn't injured, all they mean is he wasn't killed." By the way, the LA police chief has offered to buy the women a new truck. Quote
BiBottomBoy Posted February 11, 2013 Author Posted February 11, 2013 This is all showing just how incompetent the LAPD are. Now they are using drones to try to find him. Good luck with that. Quote
