Guest FourAces Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 I been listening to his radio show off and on for about a year now. If you do not know who he is well he is a talk show host who spreads a bit of religion with financial advice. His main thing is to be 100% debt free and talks about how he was wealthy then broke and wealthy again. How to take baby steps in paying off your debt snowball and so on .... He has a few books but gives much of the info away on his web site. One thing that is refreshing about him is he has no problem offending callers ... not in a mean way but in a way that attacks their logic. Like one caller, as an example, wanted to know how Dave thinks he should handle a financial scenario... a few minutes into the call Ramsey realizes that the guy already "handled" the issue and was only calling in to get his blessing that he did the right thing. Ramsey told him he would not give his blessing and that the guy had a lot of nerve pretending to be unsure of what he wanted to do. Just wondering anyone here pay attention to what he preaches? Does it seem realistic? Quote
Members seattlebottom Posted February 6, 2013 Members Posted February 6, 2013 (edited) He's a little too self righteous for my tastes. There's a wonderful blog called Get Rich Slowly which has a great wealth of information about personal financing. Edited February 6, 2013 by seattlebottom Quote

Members RA1 Posted February 27, 2013 Members Posted February 27, 2013 All of those kinds of things are a variation of AA with their 10 steps. In other words any remedy for a human ailment will work IF you work the remedy. Don't drink definitely elminates the problems of alcoholism. Don't gamble definitely remedies a very negative addiction. However, not everyone wishes to give up a pleasure entirely to avoid each and every side effect. The "trick" is to live moderately. Not necessarily easy but a laudable goal. I was once interested to read a treatise that suggested that if one only drank wine there would be no alcoholism. Interesting but not scientific. If you put $100 or whatever you can afford in your pocket and go to a casino and leave when it is gone, do you have a problem with gambling? Perhaps but it seemingly is not out of control. If you don't have any debts, obviously your financial situation is better than if you do. After that is an individual evaluation. Best regards, RA1 Quote
