Guest MRSBUCKET Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 Re: Wowpow. I have just been informed that our forum friend Wowpow has died today. I understand that he was in intensive care for a while. I am sure that he will be missed very much on the forums. For those that did not know him personally he was famous for his pictures and the name ‘Mr. Cut and Paste” If anyone has any further details please add to this. Quote
Guest Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 What a very sad thing indeed. He was so giving and always there to share information to all who wanted to visit Thailand and wanted to make their trip a wonderful experience. My condolences to his family and friends. Quote
Guest Khunatm Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 For those who knew Terry as a friend, or through his many postings on various forums, I would like to share, with the utmost respect, the last email I received from him five days ago on Sunday 3rd March 2008. I had no idea his health was so serious, but he still expressed a sense of humour. ________________________________________________________________________________ Well it seems it was a touch of Pneumonia which with my poor lungs is pretty serious. Currently in ICU (more like an S&M unit ) the two most unpleasant days of my life. Now on the mend and moving to a regular room (?) tomorrow and back home in a couple of days. Thanks for all the kind messages, I cannot chat yet as I have to wear and oxygen mask, Take care Terry _______________________________________________________________________________ After I got to know Terry, I found him to be one of the kindest, most sincere and caring people I have ever met. Although he was not religious he had Christmas lunch with us for the past three years, something my family and close friends will remember and cherrish forever. He was a marvelous ambassador for Pattaya and will be deeply missed. 'Alfie' said, "Life is a Banquet and that is the way Terry lived it", how true, and Wowpow would love the quote too. Our deepest condolences, especially to Khun Joe who gave Terry marvelous support. Rob, Khun Deer & family. Quote
Gaybutton Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 This is indeed terrible news and a shock to us all. Anyone familiar with the message boards was familiar with Wowpow. Anyone who knew him also knew that he was the very essence of culture and class, and was a pure gentleman. Wowpow was an icon in both Pattaya and Bangkok and an integral part of the gay scene. His death is a terrible loss. We are presently awaiting information as to funeral arrangements. At this point, nobody seems to know if there will be a funeral in Thailand or whether his remains will be sent home for burial. Once we are able to find out, we will certainly let you know. Quote
Guest jinks Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 So sad, another friend has left us. Terry was fond of taking pictures but a little camera shy himself. I was lucky to have known such a true gentleman. He was caught on camera Christmas last year. He won't mind this other picture being shown now... A very pretty boy 1964 ! R.I.P. My friend. Quote
Maple Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 I understand that Terry was diagnosed last year with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) which is a combination of chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Quote

Guest Geezer Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 As of noon Friday Joe, Terry's wonderful Thai friend, is still in Bangkok completing the paperwork necessary for Terry's cremation. Joe has asked my friend, Anurak, to make arrangements at Wat Chai (South Pattaya). The time of cremation cannot be set until the paperwork is completed. The embassy will close for the weekend. Quote
Gaybutton Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 The time of cremation cannot be set until the paperwork is completed. The embassy will close for the weekend. The funeral could be as soon as Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. Geezer is on top of this and as soon as the date and time can be confirmed, it will be posted here for those who wish to attend the funeral. Quote
Gaybutton Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 When the funeral arrangements for Wowpow become available, I would appreciate it if someone else will be kind enough to post it. Unless the information becomes available on Monday, neither Geezer nor I will be able to post it. For months we have been planning a rather extensive road trip through central and northern Thailand. Our original plan was to leave Tuesday morning. We discussed delaying our trip until after the funeral, but we have decided we really need to go ahead with our original plans. If the information does become available on Monday, one of us will go ahead and post it, but obviously, if the information is not available until Tuesday or later, then neither of us will be able to post it. ChrisUK Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Wowpow was always a person I respected from two perspectives; one, that he had a great deal of wisdom gained through his own experience and two, that he was British, similar to myself, so his information was particularly relevant to me. I saw him in various locations during my trips to Thailand, but only communicated with him through the various message boards. In recent years, I have been experimenting with the process of a possible move to Thailand by taking ever increasing lengths of time there. Inevitably, these greater time spans have needed more organising than the usual 3-4 week holidays, so whenever I needed advice I would post a query on the board and usually received very helpful responses from many fellow posters, but nearly always a deatailed reply from Wowpow. Recommended insurance firms and what to do with my house back home during a lengthy stay in Thailand were typical questions ably answered by him. As I come towards the end of a six month stay here in Thailand, I hold a feeling of gratitude to him and others who have helped me through their knowledge and guidance. It is that selfless sharing of information that encouraged me to spend the amount of time I have in writing my 'Living in Thailand' experiment (placed in the Resource Forum of the Sawatdee site) after each trip to further assist others who may be thinking of doing similar trips. Wowpow, along with others I have met in this transition period, was a person who helped me feel part of a community here, supporting and befriending whenever necessary. Without these friends I would not be sitting here in a beautiful apartment, which I now regard as my 'home-from-home' overlooking Pattaya Bay(and his funeral service in the temple beneath my balcony) and contemplating my next 6 month trip.
