TotallyOz
I was informed that some on the board do not see different forums that were outside of the "main" forum. The term Main was used many years ago and it just stayed that way. It was not ever meant to be a more important category. But, it was just intended to be the first forum. I have changed things around a bit and organized them in a more logical manner. (at least logical to me and I am not sure that says a great deal) I hope this makes it easier for all to see all the forums and participate more in other areas. I named it for you and hoping that some would see it really is out there and since you just found the forum in Outer Space, I thought the new name appropriate. Yes I appreciated the Whimsy of it, but I think that name jinxes the Forum, and makes it seem like it is "untouchable"... I guess I really need to throw a really rude and inappropriate topic in there for it to get going ?
Members lookin
OK, you win. All I was trying to do was find an efficient way to see some new posts without having to hunt and peck through all the forums. I thought the 'View New Content' button was going to be my salvation, but it seems the programmers are hellbent on naming everyone 'Array' in that particular view and can't be convinced to do otherwise. So now they've decided the fix is to create eight Sections with nineteen Forums where I can meander around endlessly looking for something to read. And Heaven knows where I'd end up if I wanted to find something about a Latin American film star who's traveling to Europe to get into porn. I guess it would depend on how old he is and whether he needs any advice. I'm as big an advocate as you'll find for organization and getting things into the right boxes, but I think I'm going to have to sit this one out, at least until there's a flowchart. As i read the rules and the 'Raison d'etre' - the Sandbox is where admins move threads when they become too unpleasant - a 'kinder'gentler' alternative to locking them. It seems that the intent IS to segregate them. it doesn't appear to have been conceived as a place anyone would WANT their posts to be in. Have I misinterpreted, or has the concept changed? Lookin, I have finally found this. So sorry it took so long but I went to the forum producers website and searched around and finally found the issue. It appears to be an issue with the customized "skin" of the site. I have asked them for support and we will try to fix this. lookin

If a thread is so verbotten and offensive that it must be segregated, then I would agree to Locking the damn thing. TotallyOz

You notice we don't lock too many threads around here. We much prefer to allow for open communication as we are all adults. There is a limit though. It is just TY and I rarely reach it. lookin

Stop twisting the facts. The list you're referring to is a list of topics members are tired of hearing about or find distasteful - they're expressing their opinions. No one is enforcing that list. As for your crickets & babbling brooks - wishful thinking on your part, I think!

Members lookin
Well then in the spirit of "impersonation", let the members of THIS site cum up with its 2013 list of topics NOT to be discussed this year HERE....There were so many topics listed "elsewhere", that the last time I checked, all I heard were crickets, and the running of a babbling brook.... I don't think it's the topics themselves that cause tsuris, but rather the way topics are discussed. For me, it's all about how we relate to one another as a social group. For example, here are five possible ways of disagreeing with someone: 1. I think you may have overlooked something. 2. Do you really believe this??? 3. You've got to be kidding me! 4. That's the DUMBEST thing I've ever heard from someone who's SUPPOSED to be an adult!! 5. In my opinion, it's not the topic itself that causes threads to do downhill. Nor is it the fact that different posters have different opinions; as you and others have said, disagreement can be a very healthy thing. Rather, it's that some posters seem to enjoy throwing insults at other posters. If you're surrounded by a bunch of other insulting posters, such aggressive negativity can be just what the doctor ordered. But if you're in a group where some folks are put off by this kind of antisocial behavior, you may end up driving away half your audience and discouraging anyone new from joining the club. And even that's OK when it's your site and you get to decide who stays and who goes. But TY and OZ have always made it clear that they'd like more participation, rather than less, and they've put their money where their mouth is. As their guest, I figure it's my responsibility to figure out how to be welcome in their house. I personally think they do a great job of making others feel welcome and setting an example of how they would like their guests to be treated. Topics that would get locked down elsewhere, or end up with posters being kicked out, usually survive here and can often be quite fun. So I figure why not learn to appreciate a good thing when it comes my way? TotallyOz and MsGuy

Guest EXPAT
It looks good. I think that people also need to realize that the mobile version works a bit differently than the full PC/MAC web version of this forum. That will help everyone navigate as well hopefully. AdamSmith
but I'm not licensed to practice psychology. How else would you define the role of moderator? Given that, on this board at least, it is not usually defined as 'defenestrator.' TotallyOz
