Members RA1 Posted May 26, 2014 Members Posted May 26, 2014 I think most likely Cubana is flying Ilyusans. I have no idea who might be doing their maintenance or how good it might be but if they need a part, I don't think FEDEX will provide it overnight at the moment. Any US manufactured aircraft they might have are almost surely being maintained by a third party which can legally buy parts. BTW, it is and has been for years perfectly legal for US civilian aircraft to overfly Cuba with prior permission. Landing rights seem to be just around the corner. We shall see. Members axiom2001 Posted May 27, 2014 Members Posted May 27, 2014 If there were any question about the type of air plane and its safety component, all of those regulated tour companies in Canada and England and Grand Circle Foundation in the USA who use these charter flights would NOT be having their innumerable tours to Cuba via the three cities mentioned in my thread as well as from Cancun or Mexico City! If you have questions about whatever I've posted, take time and contact the tour companies and lend your queries to them. DON'T HIGH JACK my post with what you posted. BEGIN A NEW ONE! Quote
AdamSmith Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Idle engineering note: those airframes were engineered for a 40-year-plus service life, and then over-engineered beyond that, engineers thankfully being the conservative creatures they are. (Well, what's a little I-35 bridge collapse among friends? Or Apollo 1? Or...one begins to see why engineering managers tend not to have peaceful sleep.) But despite just undermining my point my friends in Boeing -- and even, yes, EADS -- are people I would and do trust with my life. Civil engineers, close but not quite as much, now that I think. Thank goodness buildings and bridges do not, generally, have to fly. Quote
Members RA1 Posted May 27, 2014 Members Posted May 27, 2014 Don't forget that pigs do fly which is a motto of Corky's BBQ in MEM using FEDEX to deliver their products nationwide. Aren't all enduring threads "hijacked" in one way or another as various topics are suggested by commentary therein? Thought provoking is as thought provoking does. Best regards, RA1 AdamSmith 1 Quote
AdamSmith Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 From my job i happen to know the divers who pulled the I-35 bridge collapse victims from the waters. So this is only to apologize for my stuff above, and much else. Quote
Members RA1 Posted May 27, 2014 Members Posted May 27, 2014 Why? We all seem to know personally someone who was directly affected by this bridge collapse. It is a current and serious indictment of our infrastructure. Perhaps we need a shorthand written version of, "excuse me, I don't mean to interrupt, but what you wrote reminded me of something important to me and I hope to you and others". Best regards, RA1 Quote
AdamSmith Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Thank you. Sincerely, as I know you know. To Axiom, for whom I have great feeling for his contributions and his heart, I wanted to apologize for the hijack. But then, on t'other hand, as you RA1 said, I luv luv luv hijacks, & find them the very soul of discourse here. Quote
AdamSmith Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 The infrastructure collapse happening even as we sleep is of course one of the great national horrors. The legislative glory comes all from new construction projects, but 80% of spending should be intelligently (as opposed to blindly, as now) put toward maintenance. Ach. Quote
Members axiom2001 Posted August 1, 2014 Members Posted August 1, 2014 So when you say cheap rentboys, how much exactly are we talking? $40 - $60 Go to http://www.gayromeo.com. I've put four or five guys into my "Guest Book' and have communicated with one of them. I do hope that he's there when I hope to arrive! [uS dollars are not accepted in Cuba, so one probably will give the fee equivalent in CUCs [the currency that all tourist convert to]. I plan to purchase Canadian dollars and/or Euros and covert to CUCs. Quote

Members Popular Post Alaskabear Posted August 24, 2014 Members Popular Post Posted August 24, 2014 I spent 5 weeks in Cuba and 3 of them in Havana last year. I flew to Mexico City, bought a cash ticket, converted my US bills (at my bank before I left) and was on my way! Cuba is a love/hate country. There is so much potential for it to be the premier destination for the region but policies in both Cuba and the US prevent that from happening. As for guys, woooof. I've been to all 7 continents and 34 countries and no place has quite a supply of amazing looking guys as Cuba does. But, I am partial to that look. There are a few gay bars popping up in Havana now and the street scene is really active in a few locations. You do need to exercise caution though. Twice I was walking back from the bar at night and my date was stopped by security or the police and asked to see ID. Also, walking by the cruising areas I passed a glance at a couple of guys but I wasnt really interested. They followed me for a couple of blocks while I was walking home for the night and begging for a night in bed with me, and a plain clothes policeman noticed and arrested them. Planetromeo is a great option, but be aware that internet service is very expensive if you don't have access to it at your job or university. It was about $5/5CUC per hour at the two government run internet cafes. In a country that averages $30 a month in wages, internet is truly a luxury. In old town there is parque central. It is near the Capitol Building. I noticed several working boys sitting around on the benches waiting for a conversation. Also, across the street in front of the Hotel Inglaterra there is a tourist bus that can take you to Micayito Beach. Its a gay beach with LOTS of activity. Be careful of the police though. Needless to say, I was impressed by the lack of swimwear and abundance of tighy whities used for swimming trunks. The boys know what they are doing for sure when they get wet Food is an issue and unfortunately Cuba ranks as the worst place I've ever been when it comes to options and quality. Accommodations are really interesting. http://www.cuba-junky.com/, a great website to find Casa Paticulars, was where I found most of my lodging. Casas averaged $25-$30 a night. Sometimes breakfast is included, sometimes not. Be aware you are staying in people's actual homes a lot of the time. There are options that are more private though. I much preferred to stay in Vedado instead of the slightly cheaper and dirtier Centro and the overpriced and too touristy Old Havana. Vedado is where most of the cruising and gay life happens. Near Calle 23 and the Malecon, there is a bar called Humbolt 52. It is the first and I think only fully gay bar in town. I love Havana for its grittiness, yet relative safety. The scene is very young, and feels of a different age. As an American, it is very nerve wracking to carry around thousands of dollars due to lack of access to our banking system. You wait in lines EVERYWHERE it seems and the bureaucracy is apparent everywhere. If you would like to have an amazing gay tour guide, I highly recommend Luis. http://www.gaycubatourguide.com/about-me/ He is a professional and not an escort by any means. Don't use him to find boys, but his services in getting acquainted with the city, finding a gay friendly casa, and general friendship are amazing. I miss Cuba. It certainly has made an impression on me in many ways. As a tourist, it can feel that you are a walking ATM sometimes. Poor countries have this affliction and Cuba is no exception. Touts are everywhere in Old Town. I spent about $50 a day staying in decent Casas, eating at the more pricey and tastier privately owned restaurants and buying a couple of drinks at the bar. Sometimes that bumped up to $80 depending on the date for the night. The country is changing in some ways very fast, and in others, painfully slow. Give it a try. Members axiom2001 Posted October 26, 2014 Members Posted October 26, 2014 So when you say cheap rentboys, how much exactly are we talking? From the ads on http://www.gayromeo.com, the going rate is $40/E40 to $60. Dollars are not accepted but Euros and CUCs are. From my research the CUC is 1-1 in dollars and Euros! 10.26.14 Quote
