Gaybutton Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 The following appears in the PATTAYA CITY NEWS: _____ Dusit Resort Changes its Name A function was held on Thursday morning at the site of the old Dusit Resort and Hotel at the north end of Pattaya beach to officially announce the changing of the name of the long-running establishment to the Dusit Thani hotel. The name changing ceremony was attended by Pattaya Mayor Khun Niran and his senior advisor Khun Itipon as well as Khun Chartchuwan, the general manager of the Dusit Thani and his senior management. The re-branding of the resort and hotel is to put it in line with the famous Dusit Thani hotel in Bangkok which is owned by the same company. Quote
Guest wowpow Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 Bye Bye Dusit? Seems more like "Hail Thani, Farewell Resort" "In the early 1900’s King Rama VI of Thailand envisioned a wondrous utopian kingdom that was the personification of a culture that had been a millennia in the making. He called it Dusit Thani, a ‘town in heaven’. For over 30 years it has been our inspiration for the experience we aim to create for our guests at every moment of every day." http://www.dusit.com/ Seems like they are arranging their many hotels into like named groups and dropping the resort title. Words seem to get so quickly debased these days. Anyone booking the Dusit Thani Pattaya and expecting a "town in heaven" might feel disillusioned even though it is a good hotel for those with strong legs. A resort hotel was a place with literally everything that you could want on a holiday and now some modest guest houses call themselves resorts - possibly in the sense of the last one. Similarly a Suite ( of rooms ) which used, at minimum, consist of a luxury sitting room, bathroom and bedroom, is now often used to describe a bedroom with a chair. Gay use to mean - Queen used to mean - need I go on Oh! I already did. Quote
