No one can make this stuff up. And for the international debate, it would be nice if BO really went on the attack with this info against Mittens. Which he needs to wear as his hands are so dirty. Looking at Anne, I cannot help but compare her to Eva Braun, and over coffee and strudel, chatting with her friends about Adolph building showers for those "dirty jews."

Just the fact that through Mitt's involvement, smoking among women in Russia has increased from 7 percent to 22 percent and now 60 percent of all men smoke in Russia. And of course, Magic Panties-wearing Mitt has only smoked at the most one. At the same time profiting over making others sick and dying. And of course tithing back to SLC and the LDS their 10 percent.

I keep reflecting on Sherman McCoy, Melanie Griffith and The Bonfire of the Vanities when I see the Evil Couple. Sorry but Tom Hanks was so miscast in that role. Ruined the memories of an awesome book for me.

I am not sure whether this is a good analogy but I hope I can deliver my point. He is a consultant and his job is to give advice on how to improve his client's business. Let's say if he denied the same service to our OZ's company because his religious faith, I don't think it's fair and I would file a complaint. His job is help companies to make money and his record is not so perfect in that but I believe he worked hard for it within his ability. I don't think one should be criticized for doing his job. The article itself is politically tainted and it's not so fair.

. . . He is a consultant and his job is to give advice on how to improve his client's business. . . .

I believe it's possible for a businessman to select the products and industries he will help build. My own experiences include brand development and, in the nineties, we knew enough about the health implications of smoking that I would not have used any of my own modest abilities to help hook tobacco users. It's not impossible to choose where to put one's efforts, even if one has to sometimes make a personal choice between earning a bit more money and causing harm to others.

It's possible, as you say, that Romney could have separated his business decisions from his moral convictions. But he didn't. In the article ihpguy cited, Romney has put himself forward as a morally upstanding businessman by linking himself with children shopping for school supplies:

"The back-to-school season is here, and as parents take their children to shop for school supplies, I suspect that many of them will be visiting a Staples store," Romney wrote in an Aug. 23 Wall Street Journal op-ed. "I'm very familiar with those stores because Staples is one of many businesses we helped create and expand at Bain Capital, a firm that my colleagues and I built."

Is it not fair then to tell another side of his story?

Aww those kids are so cute... Well I know this might sound silly but I will try to defend my view on this.

The increase in number of people smoking in Russian might be due to the instability of society that is filled with corruption and injustice. Its social structure is very rigid and things don't work as well as here in the US. Young people don't have role models to look up to. Driving a car in Russian is very dangerous and you can get driver's license easily by bribing officials. You can obtain higher degrees like that too. If you get injured in an accident it takes forever to get compensated. Nowadays very old ideas from Russian church are forced onto young people. If you live in a society like this I think people will naturally turn themselves to alcohol and smoking to vent.

But the article makes it look like it's Bain capitals fault. I simply can't agree with that when it's not. Russian needs reform within to set things right so that it will encourage people and give incentives to make healthier choices. Then people who smoke will smoke but those who can do without it will make healthy choices even though tobacco companies do business in Russia.

I am against smoking and yes I strongly encourage friends to quit smoking. But I am not against the tobacco industry. I want prostitution to be legalized and establish a system that can guarantee fair wages for sex providers. The same bias that keeps this from happening is the bias we might have against the tobacco industry?

In 1990 it was reported according to a LA Times article, 77 million people smoked in the Soviet Union. I am not sure how many people smoked in the same area now known as Russia but the article above is misleading.

Another thing is the article doesn't even talk about why the Soviet Union had a cigarette crisis that led to riots and their request for help from the west. It left out important part of the story.

The prohibition failed and I think completely banning cigarettes won't work either like we can't convert everybody to Mormons or born again Christians. Maybe that's possible at a place like heaven, though...

As for the number of women smoking, it is increased in other countries too and 60 percent of men smoking is misleading as I have said...

"Cigarette rebellion" happened during the Soviet Union under Gorbachev in 1990 and the CIS was estalibshed in 1991. Bain was requested and paid by US government to be a consulting company for US businesses going into Russia in 1993.

As I have said the article left out important background how Bain got involved to make it look bad.

I am not saying that Bain is a role model and I do see the point that Lookin is trying to make. But the article is not balanced and I acknowledge that my view can't be valanced either. But we can talk about it to make our world a better place.

Hito, perhaps because the CIS was established after the date you cited?
