Guest EXPAT
Worst day in the world for the Romney campaign, but maybe the best for the Obama campaign. http://m.motherjones.com/politics/2012/09/secret-video-romney-private-fundraiser During a private fundraiser earlier this year, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney told a small group of wealthy contributors what he truly thinks of all the voters who support President Barack Obama. He dismissed these Americans as freeloaders who pay no taxes, who don't assume responsibility for their lives, and who think government should take care of them. Fielding a question from a donor about how he could triumph in November, Romney replied: There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax. Romney went on: "[M]y job is is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives." I find this unbelievable and real telling of Romney's real personality. Why anyone would vote for this idiot is beyond me. If this doesn't prove that he is only thinking about the very rich I don't know what does.

Guest hitoallusa
Well that's his philosophy and his upfront about it. To be fair, I like that in your face attitude. It's a quality very rare these days. It's better than not knowing one's thoughts and philosophy and found out them later after they get what they want. In that sense, I do like him but he should not be president. A person who has that kind of inflexible mindset will not be good for the country. Sometimes one's self is the very enemy of oneself.. I find that ironical and strange. A lot of historical figures were trapped in tradition of the past and couldn't see the changes that were coming.. But in a sense, obstinate opinions of these politicians incite other people to counteract them so I guess Romney's role in history is not so pleasant instigator. So even though he doesn't become president, he did his part and life well lived..

Everything that Romney says in public is general, not specific, and tailored to the audience which is in front ofhim. Your idea of 'up front and honest about it' doesn't jibe with my idea of up front and honest. Just sayin'. No matter how much lip stick one puts on a pig it cannot make it something it ain't. Guest hitoallusa
Well would it make you upset if I said that Romney and Ryan were both cute and handsome? You will know that Romney do say what other people won't say if you read his book. So this was not surprising to me at all. Furthermore, I don't think he meant in a negative way when he said he didn't worry about those people who would vote for Obama.. It doesn't mean that he doesn't care about their well being or anything like that. He means in terms of votes, he won't get their support so he will focus on the independents and etc.. to get their votes. He is just stating his election strategy. I'm not sure why his statement is misinterpreted. Please correct me if I am wrong but where is fairness in all this. I don't think he deserves this because he simply has a different world view. We need to show tolerance although we disagree with him. If one party and one person has all the solutions to the issues we are facing that's great but that is not the case. Anyhow, IMHO, it was not a fair article and the very bias we need to pull out of our society is in the media. "Up front about it?" Honest? Hardly. Guest EXPAT
If a presidential candidate can't honestly show empathy for every person in his potential constituency then he can't be a good leader for all. Romney really only cares about the very rich and adopting policies to support the very rich and business culture. This is not a man to represent all of the people at all. And if he were a real leader he would realize this. He is not remotely presidential material. It's actually quite embarrassing.
Members MsGuy
Hito, I found this article breaking down that 47%. Somehow it doesn't seem so astounding when you look at what that number actually represents. Personally I'm curious which of those government tits these six taxpayers are sucking: "...according to Internal Revenue Service studies, six of the 400 U.S. tax filers with the highest adjusted gross income (meaning AGI of at least $77 million) paid no U.S. income tax. " And I'm really curious why so much straight porn uses skanky looking models. It's a real puzzlement to me. Do str8 folks really find skank erotic? Guest EXPAT
A lot of people are saying this is the moment that Romney lost the election, but let's not forget all those people on Medicare, Social Security, and Disabled Social Security who carried Tea Party signs in rallies against government handouts. . . Guest EXPAT
Here's a handy-dandy chart of where those folks who don't pay taxes live. Probably not an accident that it's shaded in red.
Guest hitoallusa
When there is will there is a way... I don't think Romney should not have talked about tax.. He personally has a system set up so his children can inherit without paying a lot of tax and as well as (an) overseas account. There a lot of loopholes in the tax code system and some people lobby to change a certain clause in the law so they don't have to pay tax or access donated money even though they can't use after giving away..those minor changes never get reported and you have to read the bills thoroughly.. It's a form of art... Just be creative.. I believe a lot tech companies do it too.. They abused the law and act like they are clean. That's fine but please do not criticize others when they do the same thing.. What is the purpose? .. I have never seen people like that get away for long... There is a price for everything and they eventually pay... Hito, I found this article breaking down that 47%. Guest EXPAT
And of course Donald Trump weighs in . . . Clips have hit the internet Tuesday (Sept. 18) of a video made with Donald Trump that features the "Apprentice" boss giving an actor playing President Obama a performance review and ultimately telling him at the end that he's "fired" from the presidency. It was supposed to air at the Republican National Convention Monday night, Aug. 27, but that night of the convention was canceled due to the threat of Hurricane Isaac and the video was never shown. "I think they did a very good job," Trump says of the video, on "Today." "I actually was [surprised it wasn't shown another night]. It came out very well. A lot of people wanted it, but the problem [the Republicans] have is they are not being tough enough." "They are not getting, I can't say down and dirty, but that's exactly what President Obama is doing with them. They're gotta fight fire with fire," Trump continues. "The Republicans have to get tougher or they're going to lose this campaign." Trump also tells Matt Lauer what he thinks of the leaked fundraiser videos of Mitt Romney calling President Obama supporters "victims." "I think he has to not apologize, we've seen enough apologizing," says Trump. "What he said is probably what he means." But Trump then goes on to address Romney's response to the videos and says, "He's actually saying that's not what he meant and I'm sure he wished he didn't say it, I'm sure he wished the hidden camera wasn't there." Do str8 folks really find skank erotic? (AdamSmith, as our resident bi-sexual, we're looking to you to enlighten us. You have a point. Has always beaten the shit out of me why this should be. All I can report is that in bi porn, both the guys and chicks tend to be good-looking, like most actors in the better gay porn. Don't know whose taste to attribute that to. I can note that in the porn flicks in which my lesbo Latina hooker has appeared, both her girl and boy costars are hot young things. Nothing like the Holsteins of each sex that you too aptly served us here.
AdamSmith
Well that's his philosophy and his upfront about it. To be fair, I like that in your face attitude. It's a quality very rare these days. It's better than not knowing one's thoughts and philosophy and found out them later after they get what they want. Only thing a teeny bit wrong with your assessment is that the Governor has as many philosophies and faces as he calculates -- year to year, month to month, day to day -- that he needs in order to scrape together the votes. Count his about-face reversals over his political career. Not to mention his Etch-a-Sketch moments just within this campaign. As TY said. And as EXPAT notes, all this adds up to suggest a person who just does not have a moral compass, certainly not when it comes to empathizing with, leading, and serving ALL who would be his constituents were he to win. Guest hitoallusa
Well I'm not trying to argue with you all here. I have not met him personally or interacted with him. Nonetheless I would like to point out that it is very hard to know a person and I think some things that are said about him are not justified. I personally think he should not be elected and prefer Obama over him but want to give him the benefit of the doubt because he is trying so hard to make this country better based on his philosophy and faith... We can't agree with him that I understand but I want to show respect to someone trying so hard and giving it all to make this country better. He deserves some respect and break... Guest EXPAT
Here is Rush Limbaugh's take on Romney's 47% comments. . . "This could be the opportunity for Romney, and for that campaign, to finally take the gloves off and take the fear off and just start explaining conservatism, start explaining liberty to people and what it means." Limbaugh said. "And explain that they don't need to be in that 47 percent. There's no reason for them, for everybody to be -- essentially having given up on their future in this country. There's no reason for it. This is, to me, such an opportunity to espouse conservatism."

Anyhow, IMHO, it was not a fair article and the very bias we need to pull out of our society is in the media. What he 'meant' is open for intrepretation. Whether he was writing off the 47% in the election or as a concern central to his governing principles, you decide. I tend to give peoples actions more weight than I give their words -- written or spoken. Especially when those words are tailored to the audience so specifically as to say different things to different crowds or at different times. I have not read the Romney book but I did see him up close as a Governor and I'm generally familiar with his tenure at Bain. I believe him to be a caring compassionate deeply flawed man. Caring and compassionate on a personal level with those he comes into contact in everyday life, much of it insular as his is. Cold and calculating with regard to those far removed from his personal sphere. As a Mormon he is charitable and very open to helping his fellow man. As a business man he is Harry Lime incarnate who uses law rather than skirts it. Harry Lime was a central character in the 1949 move: The Third Man played by Orson Wells. He was a petty crook in post war Europe who stole and cut penicillin with water and sold in on the black market at the expense of many lives. When asked by Joseph Cotton why he did this, while they were sitting on top of a Ferris Wheel in an amusement park, Harry Lime said "to make money". When asked how he could harm so many people he remarked that the people below looked just like ants, worthy of no more concern. When Mitt sits high atop Bain he sees the employees of his companies as not ants, exactly, but as beans - worthy of no more concern. That us how one can put a company into bankruptcy after stripping it of tens and hundreds of milions of dollars in pension funds and walk way fat and happy -- time and again. If one doesn't think he'll bring this bean vision perspective to his Presidency should he win then people are ignoring his record of actions. Medicare, Social Security, Medicaid, college loans, education support, etc. will be cut deeply if not eliminated, if he can get away with it. A GOP Congress would fall all over themselves to assist in the dismantling of The New Deal and The Great Society programs. All the while being a warm compassionate friend to all those in his circle at the West Wing and at his church.
