I can't HEAR YOU!

Recommended Posts

Periodically I have always had struggles with wax conditions in my ear. Now and then I go into the doctor who takes this needle about 12 inches long and shoves it in my ear and squirts it full of water...and IT HURTS!

Anyway I noticed that I'm having the issue starting again. So I jumped on the internet to see what people suggested to do for it. This is one home remedy which actually scares the hell out of me:

Being a sister of a child who has clogged ears, I know what a struggle it can be to find the best cleaning remedy. But luckaly my uncle brought ear wax candles one day to solve the problem. They are about $3.00 a piece and around a ft. long. You take one a put a paper plate at the end and stick the pointed part in the ear hole and light the other end. It will take about 20 minutes to burn completely down. The heat will draw all of the wax out and you can see the resalts in the burned candle. It works incredibly good and cause NO pain at all and that is a coming from a 4 year old.The candles are sold in most walmarts or fred meyers.

What does everybody else thing? What do you suggest?

NO DOCTOR of any reputation should EVER shoot water in your ear. This makes my skin crawl when I hear people say this. If you went to a reputable ENT, they use a suction device to remove wax. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE should any doctor put water in your ear for any reason. PLEASE PLEASE make sure of this. I have had ear issues all my life and I've seen the best ENTs in the world and they have all said this to me.

Gcursor are you sure it's water? I bet itisn't. It should be water based washing solution.. It should not hurt you so much.. It's the best solution to get rid of ear wax build up. I could do it for you if you were nearby but we are too far apart. Maybe you can try another doctor instead?

YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY WRONG. ANY LIQUID GOING IN THE EAR IS A BAD THING. PLEASE DO NOT LET ANY DOCTOR (usually non-ENTs) DO THIS !!! Liquid gets trapped in the ear and causes all kinds of other issues. Please go to an ENT that uses a suction device without any liquid what so ever.

I was talking to my cousin tonight and she said to try the ear wax candles. She's had a lot of success with those and her kids as well so I guess I'll give those a shot. I just find it hard to focus when my hearing is out in one ear. I get all OCD about my hearing and everything else gets thrown out the window which makes studying for college a bit difficult.

My step father had a problem with ear wax clogging up his ears. Per his doc's orders, every couple of weeks he would load a eyedropper of weak solution hydrogen peroxide (the stuff you can buy over-the-counter in any drugstore) into his ear while lying on his side so it wouldn't run out. The solution reacts with ear wax and just bubbles away and floats it out. About 10 minutes per side and he was good to go for another two weeks.

Sorry, EXPAT, but he did it for years w/o any noticeable problems.

Gcursor, there was no pain what-so-ever. You do need to rest your head on an old towel because the proceedure can be messy and the peroxide will bleach the hell out of anything it drips on.

ENTs will all say this is a VERY BAD practice. Please go and see an ENT and let them take it out with a suction device. It is very easy, quick and painless and you aren't putting all kinds of crap in your ears, you are taking it out. I know none of you are doctors, so please take the advice from someone who has seen many ENTs in every city I have lived. it is a very simple and easy procedure with an ENT.

This is my last comment on the subject. Everyone thinks they are experts and I can only plead so much, because I know from very direct experience. That description of the candles just cringes me when I think of how easy an ENT will use a suction device and remove it all without damaging any other part of the ear or put liquid and chemicals in there to potentially get trapped and infected. PLEASE PLEASE go see an ENT that uses a suction device. You will thank me.
