TotallyOz Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 As many of you know, we have many things in the skillet for MER in the coming months. I spent 4 weeks in India with the programming team to work on the site and we are getting close to a finished product. NOTHING has been decided yet but we are considering changing the name of the site to something a bit more catchy and spunky. I was thinking of calling it boytoy.com Of course we have considered other names as well but I jumped the gun and wanted a logo design for the site anyway. Please take a look at this contest by clicking the link and voting for your favorite logo. We have 3 more days where more submissions will be sent into us and will weed out many of the logos by a process of elimination. Thank you for helping with this! Quote
Guest lurkerspeaks Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 honestly, not crazy about any of the logos..how about Boys-R-Us? Quote

Makes no sense to me unless you named it "The Other Site". That's one I''d embrace. Quite frankly, the name and logo change leaves me cold. And, there's only one logo that I felt had any kind of meaning for me. Most were medicore or awful. As you can tell, I'm not big on change. Quote
Guest hitoallusa Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 I don't like anything that sounds cheap.. Escorts are professionals and they should not be compared to toys.. How about C & E? Quote
Guest EXPAT Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 I thought the logos look cheap and unprofessional. I was hoping for a more professional look instead of a cartoonish design. Just my opinion of course. Sorry. Quote
Members Lucky Posted July 20, 2012 Members Posted July 20, 2012 Well, I am not a poker player, but even I doubt that a shrewd businessman like Totally Oz is showing his entire hand on the first play. I am not saying that he is toying with us, but there is undoubtedly more behind the curtain. Quote
TotallyOz Posted July 20, 2012 Author Posted July 20, 2012 The contest there is only in day 1. There are 2 more days of submissions and I'll put a few more poll's up as they get more designs that I like. I know everyone hates change. Hell, I do too. My housekeeper went on holiday yesterday and some other lady was folding my underwear. I about had a panic attack. But, sometimes change can be good and better for everyone. As I said, nothing is set in stone. TY and I are only considering some options to take the site to the next level. I don't mean to toy with you boys, but your vote on this is much appreciated! Quote
TotallyOz Posted July 20, 2012 Author Posted July 20, 2012 Also, don't forget, the logo for the last 6 years has been this. We are just trying to improve upon it and not create a new Rembrandt. Just something that is fun and catchy. Quote
Guest lurkerspeaks Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 hmmmm. how about MERmen.com?? with some sort of sexy male mermaid Quote
Guest jimboivyo Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 wrong choice for a new name. the 'boy' thing is played out in gay circles and reads far too young for the variety of men who escort. don't be so inclusive with this re naming. the logo needs to not be as porn slick as this site. consider there are many who hire who don't want all of these pop up porn ads to litter their screen or have a gigantic cock flood the page the moment they surf here. Less is more. Quote
Members TampaYankee Posted July 20, 2012 Members Posted July 20, 2012 My housekeeper went on holiday yesterday and some other lady was folding my underwear. I about had a panic attack. We now have Oz on record that not only does he allow women in his skivvies, he allows strange women in them too. Quote

Just my opinion of course. Sorry. AGREED! Even if your leanings are more toward the younger guy, the 'twinks," I don't like ANY of the proposed logos. I still think male or man should be in the title; that way it will conver the gamut! Quote
Guest CharliePS Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Sorry, but I will not participate in a site called BOYTOY. Quote
Guest NCBored Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 "BoyToy" sounds like a twink porn site - I don't think 'boytoy' necessarily suggests 'escorts', nor is there any suggestion of reviews or client feedback. And I agree with some others, 'boy' is not a word I'm entirely comfortable with. Quote
TotallyOz Posted July 20, 2012 Author Posted July 20, 2012 Some new ones guys. Can you look at these? Quote
Guest jimboivyo Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 again I remind the owners to think of their wide audience and not just their own personal preferences. you're getting good feedback here. drop the name change or make it make sense for the product you're selling. Quote
TotallyOz Posted July 20, 2012 Author Posted July 20, 2012 Jim, if you think we are not listening, you don't know us very well. However, we must get more traffic to the site. It needs a chance to move to the next level. A name like boytoy is fabulous and will open the site up to a bigger audience. IMHO, for those that are offended by the use of boy, I wonder if they use rentboy? Or, do they avoid that site? What about a site called son's guys? If one would go to a site called Daddy's Review, why not Son's? Then, if you ok with Son's, why not boy? Just curious. Seriously, I am trying to understand the issue with the word boy. It is a pretty common term in the gay community from rentboys to boytoys to boysnextdoor etc. Quote
Members Lucky Posted July 20, 2012 Members Posted July 20, 2012 Oz, the feedback is overwhelmingly negative, but you have blinders on, I say in a kind and loving way. Yes, I know that you are comfortable with the boytoy phraseology, but you are getting a strong "no" on it. Many of us do not like the connotation of boys as toys. For me, Oz's Boys would be okay, but not Oz's Boytoys. A fine difference? Maybe, and we all agree that it is your site to name as you see fit. No, Pussyboys won't work either! Quote

"Boytoy" is not a synonym for that. It sounds disturbingly like a pedophile site name. You may be comfortable with that ambiguity, but I am not. Quote

It sounds disturbingly like a pedophile site name. Actually, I remember when the site first started and it was controversial. I went to one of their opening parties at an old bar called Stella's and the comments from the people there as well as the newsgroups back there was very negative and the same terms of pedophile was thrown out for that name as well. Guest CharliePS Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 I understand that, as the site owner, you will make whatever name choice you think will be good for business. But you asked for our opinions, and I have been clear about mine: if you give the site a name that I am uncomfortable with, I will leave (not that I have contributed much anyway). I won't comment on the logos, because I can't separate my reaction to them from my reaction to the name. Quote
Guest EXPAT Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 I'm not a fan of Boy Toy either. It's good for a theme night at a bar like this coming Tuesday at MJ's as an example. But I'm not sure I would actively participate in a website called "Boy Toy". I also still don't like any of the logos partly because I can't stand the name. But I also think all the logos look cheap as they have been presented. Quote
Guest hitoallusa Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 It's a very cheap name. One escort cried in front of me because he hated clients treating him as a piece of meat. Let's respect service providers. There are plenty of good clasy names. Quote
Members OneFinger Posted July 21, 2012 Members Posted July 21, 2012 ,,,"Boytoy"... It sounds disturbingly like a pedophile site name. You may be comfortable with that ambiguity, but I am not. Charlie, you have precisely described my feelings. It does sound like a site for pedophiles. I can't imagine having a site like that in my browser history and tracked by my ISP. Quote
