Gaybutton Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Well, What can I say? That was certainly a short lived "retirement." Before people start posting that this whole thing was probably planned out between GT and GB just to draw attention or something, I assure you that was not the case. I resigned and I meant it. I really did not expect or intend to return. Meanwhile, much has been taking place behind the scenes. GayThailand and I have been in communication since I resigned. We have been working together to resolve the problems that caused me to want to resign. Those problems have now been settled to my satisfaction, to his satisfaction, and I think many participants on this message board will also be pleased with the outcome once certain aspects of it becomes apparent. GayThailand has asked me to return as moderator and I have agreed to do so. I thank all of you for these kind messages, well most of you anyway. For those who are disappointed that I have returned, that's life . . . I have many people to thank regarding my decision to return, but there is one person who I wish to thank publicly most of all. Rainwalker. Quite frankly, if it wasn't for Rainwalker's patience, understanding, support, and encouragement I never would have agreed to return. I owe him a debt of gratitude. I also owe GayThailand a debt of gratitude for considering my participation here important enough to resolve the problems, some of which were resolved in a way he probably did not wish to do, but did anyway. So, good or bad, I'm back. Quote
Guest buaseng Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Welcome back GB! Whilst I have not always agreed with your decisions regarding sociopathic posters like Earwig and over-the-top commercial advertising (e.g. the ill-fated Niddys Nook saga), you at least managed to curb the anarchy which tends to break out if a board is not firmly managed - SGF being a prime case. PattayaMale Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 I am happy to see you returned also. I hope the board will continue to be an open forum to discuss different points of views about events and places to visit and will NOT continue to be a place of personal attacks. As moderator, you know better than most what a tightrope and balancing act it takes to be a good moderator. In my opinion anyone can block views that are contary to the moderators view. However I believe you have shown a balance in doing so. Welcome back. Quote

I am wonderful, aren't I?? <grin> Actually, that statement is the first public evidence that GB is on some powerful hallucinogenic drugs. He is much too generous in his thanks. In fact, he's way over the top... I think that the shout-out should go to GayThailand and GB who were able to move forward together after what I think must have been some painful annd protracted conversations. Opening yourself up to changing your mind or changing your course is not an easy thing to do - God knows how much we hate to do it because, in some twisted way, it means we might have been wrong earlier - and I think that both of those gentlemen did that and that's where the courage lies and where the kudos and wreaths should go. Chok dee na khrap - Good luck Quote
Bob Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Welcome back...and good luck. [That's all I'm saying as saying any more only assists turning this into a soap opera! ] Quote
Guest bizzybody Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Welcome back GB, now lets hope everyone concerned has analyzed their mistakes, including GB and can move forward, this is an incredible source of information and GB is a wonderful raconteur, as long as he now, just calms himself down, and listens to why many don’t like him, it could bring a lot more back to write on here again, and not only come in there droves, to take a look at what is the latest drama going on. So they can have a good old gossip on the beach. But after saying that, like any magazine, Information is not enough, it does need a bit of rumors and gossip to make it more interesting. Quote

Ah geez.....if that's the case i retract anything nice I may have said or implied in my mao missive the other night! After all, I have a reputation to live down to. GayThailand, I will never forgive you for this. I am soooooooo embarassed Quote
Guest stef Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Welcome back GayButton [That's all I'm saying as saying any more only assists turning this into a soap opera! ] Thank you Bob . We really don't want this to happen don't we ? Quote
Guest Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 What would the gay Thailand boards be without GayButton as a moderator? He has always provided so much information and help to all that ask. As he said, all of our differences have been worked out and he is back to moderating the board. While many will assume that GB and I had a huge falling out and bad blood, that is not the case. We often disagree on many things but that does not mean I don’t respect his opinion and vice versa. Few are willing to lend a hand to help moderate a board like this. It is not an easy job and often thankless and very time consuming. GB does it better than anyone including myself. While we all have our detractors, GB has always been leading the charge to make Pattaya a good destination spot for us and make our trips more enjoyable and pleasant. Damm, I also guess this means I still owe him that dinner at Manhattan? Did I tell you I am a vegan now? How about that soup place next to Duc bar? Quote
Guest Jason105 Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Good news indeed. Enough said. all the best Quote
Gaybutton Posted December 23, 2007 Author Posted December 23, 2007 While many will assume that GB and I had a huge falling out and bad blood, that is not the case. That is true and it never was the case. But if I had not come back you would have not done the Manhattan's dinner? Well then, if I ever resign again I guess I'll have to wait until after we eat . . . Guest A Rose By Any Other Name Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 Few are willing to lend a hand to help moderate a board like this. It is not an easy job and often thankless and very time consuming. I have heard this description, "a thankless job" many times in these last two strings about GB resigning -- and then of course the inevitable resurrection (surprise, surprise). However, isn't it true that GB gets paid to moderate this board? Please answer honestly as I have been informed by several "people in the know" that this is true. If so, how THANKLESS can it really be? Plus, it allows GB a forum to blast out all the hot air he has sucked in for so many years... (TR) The Rose Quote

He was not offered any money to return as moderator. The only "people in the know" are Gaybutton, me and Stef. Other than that, the "know" doesn't really know very much. Quote

Well then, if I ever resign again I guess I'll have to wait until after we eat . . . LOL. No, I would have done the dinner anyway. Just not with the deserts. When you said Manhattan before, I thought you meant a steak at my apartment in Manhattan and I am all for that. I even moved here and have been waiting on you. I haven't had many steaks since living here but I have had a lot of ethnic food. My new favorite is Cuban food and Lebanese food. Of course I love the Sushi places and the Greek grills but nothing is better to me than a good Thai meal. Hard to find in NYC that tastes like that in Thailand. Quote
Guest shockdevil Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 Well, What can I say? That was certainly a short lived "retirement."...So, good or bad, I'm back. GayButton, I am glad that you are reprising your role as moderator of Gay Thailand. This site and your advice have been instrumental in making my visit to the Land of Smiles a memorable experience. From help with researching accommodations to assistance with understanding the Thai visa policy and procedures, this site and your input were definitely invaluable. I will always remember being introduced to Cherry Restaurant and an adjacent wonderful chocolate shop on the evening you invited me to share dinner with you, Harold, Steve and Burnett (Geezer?). I look forward to another great trip back to LOS next month. My thanks to you will be dinner and cocktails on me upon my return. Quote
Guest GaySacGuy Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 GB Welcome back...the board needs you. Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas from Phuket, where I am getting ready for a big Christmas Eve Party at Club One Seven!!! Quote

Please answer honestly as I have been informed by several "people in the know" that this is true. Sheeeeesh! I wonder who those people are. I also wonder how it is even remotely any of your business or anyone else's, other than GT and myself. However you asked for an honest answer and here it is: If I was being paid, I don't think I would have resigned. Now, if GT wants to start paying me, I wouldn't insult him by saying no, but he has not offered and I have not asked. However, you and your friends 'in the know' go right ahead and believe anything you want. Quote
