I am looking for DSL options here in Pattaya. Initially I had DSL from TOT which I found lacking so I switched to DSL service from TT & T which is worse - my latest speed test gave me a reading of 19 KBPS - less than haf of dial up - After 2 days of calls back and forth TT & T got me up and running at acceptable speeds - now 2 days later I am back to a crawl. I paid for 1 yr in advance and that contract will expire in about 3 weeks. What are my other options? any recommendations ?- I live in Center Condo in Pattaya Tai if that has any bearing.

I have been very satisfied with MaxNet. Their office is on the top floor at Carrefour. Give them a try.

GB thanks for your help. If Villa Market was any closer to California Fitness it would have hit me in the nose.

As for MaxNet I went to their Carrefour office and it is actually located in the TT & T office there. They told me that MaxNet is the name TT & T gave to their DSL service and that is what I already have. They also told me that they have 3 levels of sevice and I have the cheapest - 790 baht /mo. That is a for a speed of 768 KBPS but they explained to me that is only for Thai based websites. If I am trying to access an international website - one hosted outside of Thailand - I am sharing a line with 20 other people and downlaods can be significantly slower if many of the the 19 other people are also tryinfg to access international websites at the same time. She told me that they had 2 higher levels of service - Level 2 costing 1990 baht/mo and I would only have to share the line with 10 other people. I did not ask about the Level 3 service. I explained to the sales lady that I am very unhappy with the speed of my DSL and I am not going to increase my cost by 150% when I am so dissatisfied now. She had a difficult time grasping my logic as she explained increasing my cost would make my service faster as I would cut in half the amount of people with which I share the line. Anyway, thanks for your help and I will continue to search for a new DSL provider - still open to any siuggestions.

I had ToT and was happy with it. I also had the Satellite Internet and it was fast when not in a heavy rain.

Could you be more specific by what you mean when you mention satellite internet? I have a UBC satellite dish and I have looked ath their website and I do not see any internet service offered.

Internet Satellite service is provided by IPStar (a Shin Corp company) and can be obtained in Pattaya from Loxinfo. I used it for about a year - expensive and limited to 256K download. I experienced frequent outages, with some lasting several hours - not just when it rained. When I moved to my present location off of Jomtien Beach Road, I checked with TT&T about ADSL and was told that they did not offer telephone service to my village. A friend that lives in the same village had TOT ADSL and complained it was slow and often had outages.

Since some other friends used CAT and are well satisfied, I checked and they offered ADSL service (free installation promotion at the time). I did have to pay 2,400 Baht for them to run a line from my house to their junction box on Jomtien Beach Road (about a kilometer). CAT does not offer regular telephone service - only an ADSL line. I have been using it now for over a year and am very pleased - outages and slow speed are very infrequent. I just checked my speed and it was 1.5mb download and 225 Kbs upload.

However, the cost will probably turn most people off - about 2,800 Baht per month (which was a few hundred Baht more than I was paying for the slow satellite connection).

Wasn't that lucky with Ipstar.... always ended up at Starbucks by the end of the day... tired of waiting for a better connection. That was last year... so may be things did improve.
