One Night in Taipei

Recommended Posts

Posted

I will be returning from Thailand to USA on 6 January. I have a layover in Taipei from 18:30 to 08:20 the next morning. Any thoughts on what I can do and with whom? I tried contacting a few cute yng Taiwanese on Gay Romeo but they don't seem to be like Thai boys, most in their 20s there don't want any contact from anyone over 32. I would like to see the city as I have never been and I am always open to meeting cute asian gay boys. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance

I go regularly to Taipei and really enjoy it. Unfortunately you have 3 problems. First, you are there on a Sunday night when everything has wound down after a hectic Saturday night/Sunday morning and everyone is home getting ready for the week ahead. Secondly, finding places in Taipei is quite complex unless you know their exact location. Some years ago friends and I spent an hour trying to find an 'in' bar named Funky's, even though we were within 100 yards of it! And lastly, English is not nearly so common as in Thailand.

However, check out the utopia website for some useful tips - http://www.utopia-asia.com/taiwtaip.htm. If I was there for the first time on a Sunday evening, I'd probably head for 2 saunas - Hans and Rainbow (entrance around US$12). Both are within 100 yards of each other, and there will be some guys around. Hans is quite small and attracts a wide age range with some college guys. Rainbow is much larger and is generally for the younger, fitter crowd.

Late evening around 11:00 you could head for Fresh, a bar where some Taiwanese go to meet foreigners. Get your hotel concierge to write out directions for the taxi drivers (as well as back to your hotel!), but be prepared to look very closely at all the various signs on each buiding. Taipei is a bit like Japanese cities with many bars, pubs, clubs etc., in one building

Lastly. there are some cruising places, but late on on a Sunday it will be mostly rent boys.

Thanks for the good info. I'm not opposed to checking out the cruising places if I can find my way.

The most famous cruising place is what used to be called the 'New' Park. It' about 100 yards or so behind the Caesar Park Hotel (which is opposite the main Railway Station). The utopia website has all the details. But guys tend to be shy and the advice seems to be - let them make the first move.
