I'll be traveling to Brazil for the first time next month in June. I've read and have lived vicariously through your shared stories and experiences on this forum -- thank you...!

I've learned that the saunas in Rio and Porto Alegre (weekends) are not to be missed, but there seems to be limited information on Sao Paulo. Since the R20 UN convention is making it extremely difficult for me to find a hotel/apartment around June 18 - 22, I was thinking about doing a side trip to SP.

Is it worth the plane ride? How is the sauna scene in SP? Is the standard rate higher or lower as compared to Rio? Are the boys better?,...or is it luck of the draw?

There is a very nice sauna, on the very gay Frei Caneca, which now has boys. Named Labyrinthus. And don't missed Saturday in Liberdade for Japanese/Korean food and shopping. Also from Anthony Bourdain, the mortadella and cheese sandwich at the Mercado Municipal on the Rua da Cantareira.

Let me start by saying I am no expert on S.P. saunas but I have visited Lagao many times usually on Sunday nights as I am flying the late flights back to the U.S. from S.P. So I go there around 4:00(use their valet luggage checkin, never had a problem with other 25 visits there.) Stay until 9:00 and leave for the airport. But...this last trip in March, I flew from Porto Alegre to S.P. on Monday to fly back to the U.S. on Monday night. I was not expecting much since monday's are typically slow at all the saunas except Meo Mundo, I got to Lagoa about 4:30 and there were about 10 guys working and about 6 customers. By 6:30 there were around 15 - 18 guys working! I ended up doing a 3 way with two 19 yr.olds on a night I wan't expecting much! So I guess what I am saying is it is "luck of the draw" whether there are 6 or 60 boys working, if your type happens to be there that night then it's a good night. Logoa guys have had a reputation for charging more than the Rio guys, I haven't found this to be the case but others have. I paid $180R for the three way, which was $90R./apiece. As Far as "Are the boys better"? that is really very individual, but I can say while I prefer the Rio suanas, I have usually had a good time at Lagao, I haven't been to Fragata Sauna in at least 6 years, so have no information on it.

Both iphguy and TomCal gave you some salient advice and guides. Sao Paulo is a large, large city! When I was there I used taxis and feet only as my mode of transport. I had two different guides on two trips and my friend on my 3rd one there. We did all of the saunas that were existing then; now there appears to be three; two are referenced above.

If you want a guide, try to hire Danilo; he was my guide during my second trip; he was 18 then. He's now in his middle 20s and is "heaven." He's one beautiful man who has a partner. He has some high tourist position now, but if you'd contact him, he perhaps might oblige. Have your itinerary ready. Read before you go. Lagoa is a must-go destination in Sao Paulo. It has the best sauna facilities in Brazil and in some nights the best boys. On most nights I would rate the boys as comparable with Rio´s 117, with a slight edge to 117 because of the bigger number, but some nights Lagoa gets some extraordinary talent, by that I mean Abercrombie & Fitch types (yes, I´m not exagerating) that you never ever would see in Rio. Is at the most 2 or 3 in the same night but it does happen and is not that rare. But there is a catch: lot´s of attitude, they basically stay at a certain corner and only talk to other gorgeous boys or good clients they already know. Don´t bother trying to make eye contact because they only look at people they already know or have some kind of lead. For a unknown person at the place maybe an expensive bar tab at the tables would attract them, but is just speculation cause I don´t have this kind of money. Do not assume that being a "gringo" holds any kind of appeal. The years of "gringos" fascination is long gone, nowadays "gringos" are perceived as the guys who try to pay less! How much they charge I don´t know either, never been with any of them ( by that I mean the drop-dead gorgeous ones) but I guess if they charge R$300,00 some people would pay just for their looks. The regular guys are on the R$80.00/R$100.00 range.

Another special feature of these beauties is that, unlike the other ones, they almost always wear street clothes, probably believing that towels is beneath them.

Lagoa is also the most expensive sauna in Brazil. Admission is R$50.00 Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and R$40.00 the other nights. The suite that in Rio is R$25.00 they charge R$40.00. The best night is by far Fridays. Wednesday is also good occasionally. The boys also pay more to work at Lagoa. They charge R$15.00 to the boys while other saunas charge R$10.00. The owner is known to have a soft spot for the pretty boys and they don´t pay to get in.

The other supposedly good sauna with boys in Sao Paulo is Fragata. Only been there once. The facilities are well below Lagoa´s and the good night is Saturdays (every other Saturday is disco night). Night I went was Sunday and it was just so-so.

There is another sauna with boys called Labirinthus, never been there, just heard about mostly negative remarks, like uncleaniness and shabby facilities. Maybe is São Paulo´s Meio-Mundo.

I've been to Lagoa about five times and those were happy times. The Rio guys are warmer, but Lagoa will always have at least a couple of fantasy types that can literally be found on magazine covers. One time, I was headed upstairs with a 20 year old, very good looking garoto and when we walked over to the desk to get a key, he pointed to a picture on a large bulletin board full of covers and photo spreads and he said, "look, that's me." it was, and he looked better in person.

It is true they tend to have more attitude. As a client, don't expect to be pursued. Many of the boys expect that if you are interested, you will let them know. That said, there are always gems there. I have lots of great memories. On price, in my experience, the guys there charge R$100 or so in most cases. I fought it at first, but eventually realized prices were just higher in Sao Paolo.

By the way, one option you might not consider at first is Belo Horizonte. There are several saunas there and you can even take a night bus from Rio. I think it takes seven hours on a comfortable recliner seat. I never did it, but friends recommended it highly. My favorite sauna in BH by far is Olimpo. There is something in the water in Minas that makes for great men. If you are there for more than one night, you may run into Apolo, hire him at once if you do. My body still twitches when i think of him. Prices there remain R$50 and that sauna is among the best in Brazil in terms of facilities. From Belo you can easily schedule day trips to tiradentes or Ouro Preto to vary things a bit.

I have spent several hundred nights in Sao Paulo over the last 10 years and I love the city. It reminds me of New York. The restaurants and hotels are amazing and the night clubs are to die for.

I agree with Axiom that Danilo would be a great guide for anyone. He is not a hooker so don't expect sex. But, he can show you the best time in Sao Paulo.

Here is my contribution of my experiences in Brazil. Keep in mind that this is my first trip to Brazil. I am not a fancy person, just a horny, horny, horny and sexually adventurous lad. Use your instincts. If you have a bad feeling about how the programma answers your question, then move on. Do not settle jist because you are horny,... be forward, but respectful. I met an American who wasnt direct and got stung when he found out that the programma wanted to charge him $200 reals because the programma came and squirted. Again, maybe that is a reasonable fee for coming, but wouldnt you want to know beforehand?

4) In terms of fee, well, this is really subjective and depends on multiple factors. Are you super generous, do you not care if u get ripped off, do you want to be fair, are you frugal, or super cheap and looking for the best deal? I try to take the middle road and my experience, understanding that I probably get charged more than the locals; I guess that is the price for doing business when u dont know the languafe. Factors depends on when you are there (programma who hasnt gotten a client will tend to discount at the end of the night to offset their entry fee), how hot and sizzling the programma is, and most importantly, how horny I am at that moment. At Lagoa, its seems the starting rate is $100 reals, plus the cost of the cabines per use ($35 average depending on room quality). Some programmas have gone down to $70 or $80 reals. Keep in mind that Sao Paulo is more expensive than most other cities. Bring your own condoms and lube, else you will be charged an extra $4 - $5 reals. I bring my own and the programmas seem to appreciate that the condoms are XXL so it wouldnt be so cramped for their gigantic cocks.

5) Once you agree, go to the front and get the key for the cabine, they will add it to your tab when you check-out. Go to your locker and get condoms & lube, then go to the cabine with the programma. Have fun. Moan, enjoy, fuck like its 1980, or whichever year it was that you lost your virginity.

6) Once done, return key, go to your room and pay your programma discreetly.

Some general observations...

- If the programma has clothes on, I dont want him. If you cant come to work in uniforms (ie: naked with just a towel), then I do not want to enable underachievers. Also, I made a mistake of going with a programma with clothes on my 2nd night, only to find out his penis was tiny once we were naked in the cabine (rare for Brazilians, but I guess he was special).

- I went to Thermos Fragata several times and the men there are more laid back, less business. Asking price is slightly lower at $80 reals, and you could possibly negotiate lower. I thought it was just luck, but it happened on multiple occassions, for me. Best to take a taxi to Fragata, you can walk from the Clinicas metro stop on the green line, but it will take a good 20 to 25 minutes.

- I agree with my predecessors that Lagoa has some very hot porno quality sex machine men...and they are machines, I say.

- Be stupidly clear as to what you want and make sure the programa knows your expectations. I find that Brazilian boys are generally very honorable people and do what is agreed, but they cant read your mind and they are not intuitive, since most are straight, for pay.

- There are cool markets on Sundays, too. For example, there is a Japantown near the Liberdad metro. Lots of stuff you dont need could be bought there.
