Members Lucky Posted May 25, 2012 Members Posted May 25, 2012 ...This might be the place to disclose a state secret: Earlier this year I vacated NYC and moved back to NC. Well, they really rolled out the welcome mat for you! Quote
Members RA1 Posted May 25, 2012 Members Posted May 25, 2012 Welcome back to the "real world". Yankees are fun to know, but I wouldn't want to BE one. Best regards, RA1 Quote
AdamSmith Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Has your Mom tried fixing you up with any of the spinster ladies at her church yet? Put it this way: The very Oedipus of reason crumbles beneath us. ...okay, Electra. But I will not stoop to Buick puns. Quote
AdamSmith Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Well, they really rolled out the welcome mat for you! I did take that vote personally. For the record, I registered in time to vote. But evidently I did not cast enough ballots. In seriousness, the education effort by the side against was pathetic. Quote
AdamSmith Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Welcome back to the "real world". Yankees are fun to know, but I wouldn't want to BE one. Glad you saw fit to put "real" and "world" in quotation marks. Always relative concepts. As for Yankee, my 30 years in Boston might qualify me, if only just. But you know New Englanders are rightly stiff-necked about New Yorkers and New Jerseyites NOT hmmph! being Yankees. (The ball team notwithstanding.) NY/NJ denizens are in turn of course only too glad to reciprocate the disdain of their snobby provincial neighbors to the north. Quote
AdamSmith Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Don't worry my Adam Smith.. Your Scarlet will make NC, THE State in the US... After I'm done my next target is Africa.. Love it! If you can fix the Old North State, then the Hopeless Continent should be a snap. Quote
AdamSmith Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Actually I love NC, this here Devil's Tramping Ground (pardon the synecdoche), beyond saying. Just that making fun of it is shooting fish in a barrel. And the reverse synecdoche too, of course: It is I. Quote
Members TampaYankee Posted May 26, 2012 Members Posted May 26, 2012 Please don't. The outcome could be embarrassing. ...This might be the place to disclose a state secret: Earlier this year I vacated NYC and moved back to NC. Wow!! Thought you were riding and taming the wild wave, running in the fast lane, living the life of Babylon or at least three nights a week at the Web. Can understand one might need to give the body and wallet a rest. Quote
AdamSmith Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Wow!! Thought you were riding and taming the wild wave, running in the fast lane, living the life of Babylon or at least three nights a week at the Web. Can understand one might need to give the body and wallet a rest. The road of excess leads indeed to the palace of wisdom. But turns out the mortgage on that joint is pretty steep. Which is what Blake was saying in the first place, I at last realize. Quote

I have lived in the South all my life so I probably know better than most what is wrong as well as what is right about it. However, i travel a LOT so I am exposed to more than grits and fatback. I know that a lot of folks in the South regard anyone who is or from north of the Mason-Dixon line as being a damn yankee but, of course, historically that is not true, as you mention. Sorry that you are having difficulties but NC likely can cure at least some of your ills. Best regards, RA1 Quote
